The Dark Knight is coming out so I've decided to make a list of all of the live action Batman movies from the 1989 Batman to my favorite Batman film, Batman Begins. The reason I'm not involving Adam West's 1960 Batman movie is because it's more like a oversized tv episode.
Batman (1989)
This is the movie that made me a Batman fan. Tim Burton did a great job with how Batman was supposed to look like and act like. Michael Keaton was my favorite Batman untill Christian Bale. Jack Nicholson did a great Joker but his Joker is different then the comic book virsion but I still loved Nicholson's take on the Joker. Kim Basinger is the only other main character that stood out in the cast for me and shes also my favorite Bruce Wayne love interest in the movies. Now, I do have a big problem in the cast which is the man who played Commissioner Gorden did not look anything like the actual character, this wasn't a big deal but Pat Hingle is no James Gorden. I iked the story but it was a little childish, I did like the Joker's origin but not as much as the one in The Killing Joke. It was a good idea to make Joker the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents, I never understood why people have a problem with that. My biggest problem with the story is that the Joker dies at the end when he didn't need to die. There was no reason for him to die, Nicholson wanted to be the Joker again, he really loved the character. In the end this is a great movie and a must see for any Batman or comic book lover.
Batman Returns (1992)
Just like the first film, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton did a great job. This is the best example of using two villians, the Penguin and Catwoman. Danny DeVito was a great Penguin and really got into the role. Michelle Pfeiffer was a fine Catwoman but she didn't give Catwoman what DeVito gave to Penguin and Nicholson gave to Joker. This was a much darker movie then the first which I really liked because the Penguin isn't funny, his a very twisted human being and Catwoman licking a knocked out Batman was something else. The story s good but atleast to me, leaves me empty. I didn't react the same way I did with the last one where I couldn't stop talking about it. With this I knew coming out of it that there was going to be another but what did this do to Batman, nothing. Penguin dies, Catwoman kinda dies. Thats it. No matter what, I did like this movie and every Batman fan should see this because it's the only time your ever gonna see Penguin in a Batman live action movie.
Batman Forever (1995)
This is the silence before the storm that is known as Batman & Robin but I don't want to talk about that right now. Burton decided not to return for a third movie so Joel Schummacher is the mastermind behind this movie and that is it's biggest problem. Schummacher made a very light movie after a very dark movie. It didn't even feel like the same series. Michael Keaton also decided to not return as Batman so you get the worst Bruce Wayne ever, Val Kilmer. Kilmer was a good Batman but god he sucked as Wayne, I don't know if it was just me but I really hated all his Bruce Wayne scenes. Again, there are two villians in this one, Two-Face played by Tommy Lee Jones and the Riddler played by Jim Carrey. Jones was a great Two-Face but not dark enough and I blame this on Schummacher. The Riddler is my favorite Batman villian and I was pleased with Carrey's performence but just like Nicholson's Joker, it wasn't like the comics. The biggest add to the cast was Chris O'Donnell as Robin. I had no problem with the casting but again Robin is too happy for a kid whos parents were killed. The story is very simple, Two-Face thinks Batman caused his deformed state so he wants revenge, The Riddler is a little insane and has a machine that I still don't understand what it does but it does something bad so he helps him. Batman trys to stop them, he can't and thats when Robin comes in. This is a okay film, any Batman fan should see this and any comic book fan should see this.
Batman & Robin (1997)
Why Schummacher, why? This is not like Batman, this is not like Gothem, this is sure as fucking hell not like Bane! I'm gonna try to get through this but I can't promise. George Clooney plays Batman in this one and is the worst Batman but the best Bruce Wayne untill Christian Bale. I do not blame Clooney for his bad Batman I balme that piece of shit Schummacher. Chris O'Donnell returns as Robin and acts like a little bitch through the whole movie. Alicia Silverstone plays Batgirl and nothing shined in her performence. There are three villians, Mr. Freeze played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Poison Ivy played by Uma Thurman, and Bane played by Jeep Swenson. I liked how Governor Arnold looked but all his lines were bad because of Mister fucking Schummacher. Uma Thurman was the best villian in the group and I don't have any huge complaints probably because I can't get over how bad Bane was. I don't want to talk anout Bane because I don't want to have a stroke. The story is the so easy to follow it's amazing, Poison Ivy wants to take over the world and be alone with her plaints, Mr. Freeze wants to save his wife from dying and Banes a fucking idiot. Robin hates Batman because, well there is no good reason, Alfred is dying so his neice comes to see him then she becomes Batgirl, amazing. In the end the Bat Family save the day and Freeze beats the living shit out of Ivy. The story's shit so if you don't love Batman don't see it. If you do love Batman do see it. JUST DON'T SEE IT! One last thing, this movie shows that you can't put the Bat Family together because then theres not enough Batman.
Batman Begins (2005)
This is the est Batman film ever. Christopher Nolan does a great job creating another Batman Trilogy or Series. Christain Bale is my favorite Batman and Bruce Wayne. Michael Caine is a great Alfred and I really liked how he had a bigger part in this film then in all the others. Cillian Murphy was a great Scarecrow and did a great job coming off as a psychopath. Gary Oldman looked just like Jamed Gordon and acted just liked him too. Everyone else in the cast was great even Katie Holmes. This is the best origin story I've ever saw and I think thats because Nolan used a minor villian like Scarecrow for the origin story rather a huge villian like Joker or Two-Face. The battle scenes are great better then all the others and Ra's al Ghul was awsome. This is a must see for any Batman fan and anybody that loves movies.
Well, thats what I think of all the Batman films and I can't wait to see The Dark Knight just like everybody else.
Please tell me if you agree or disagree and why.
