You may have noticed in the recent news that the House of Representatives and the Senate had approved rewriting the FISA bill (Foreign Intelligence Surveilance Act), which protects phone companies from lawsuits for warrantless eavesdropping on phone lines. This, the proponents of the bill said, was a safeguard against another possible terrorist attack.
Not only is unconstitutional, but it would be saying that if we have shredded the constitution before the 9/11, we would have protected ourselves from the terrorist attack. Bullsh#t! Is spying on millions of American citizens part of defending against terrorism? F@ck no!
You may know that the term "terrorism" is used around debates a lot to generate fear and to justify passing bills like the FISA in 2001. It's not the first time that our government had used fear to justify some of its unconstitutional actions. Remember when Franklin D. Roosevelt justified rounding up and putting the Japaneese American citizens in internment camps for the "fear" that they would betray United States? It was totally unnecessary and it violated civil rights of America's particular group of citizens.
Benjamin Franklin once said that, "Those who sacrifice their liberty for security deserve neither."
I say that Bush take that bill shove it up his ass.. all the way up.
