Now, I wanna hear some of your own responses and thoughts on this before I personally jump on the bandwagon (trust me, I can go on for days here....). Um, anyways, blast off!
All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man's life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom.
Religion does me piss off because it feels like a false sense of purity. It feels like religious people like to just use the punchline to prove their point. Someone could get into discussion about scientific facts to prove something to be true then the religious person would be like 'Oh you're not a Bible reader, you're going to hell.' That's the end of it, there's nothing they can use to back it up. Religion teaches people not to think for themselves. It's basically like don't ask questions, just do what we tell you to do. A lot religions form from our morals like don't kill, don't steal, etc.. however, it forms from our societies' past prejudices as well. I mean like gay marriage, does anyone here really fucking care if gays get married or not?
Oh man, don't get me started. If there's one thing I about religion that really pisses me off, it's what religious people say about science. When I'm watching a show like The Universe on the History Channel, and they even mention the fact that the universe is millions of years old, some people in my house will look at me in dissaproval and tell me to change the channel.
That's right about the time when my head feels like it's going to explode. I'm a Christian, but God gave you a pair of eyes to see what's going on around you, damn it!
I think that's annoying too. I remember having a debate in class about cloning, and it was so unfair that the side that was against was allowed to use the argument that God doesn't want us to create clones. How were we supposed to argue against that? It's not something you can prove or disprove.
