If you want to see a really recent example of a bad horror try Hatchet, honestly I don't think today's horror film makers try to scare us just gross us out and yep Hatchet manages to Gross you out but not scare ya. And the ending so intentionally Jason which means Hatchet Part Deux will be on it's way soon.
If you can find a copy od Evil Aliens that's another twisted gorefest which I thought was intentionally done bad but really really liked it and it stars Emily Booth mmmmm Sweeets.
Yeah definitely no remakes. They've now done a remake of The Eye which I thought was a brilliant asian horror. Why doesn't Hollywood leave these fims alone, they stand out and then Hollywood F*&ks them up.
Oh definitely the dead trilogy old and new, the remake of Dawn Of The Dead was actually bloody amazing and for once a worthy remake, loved Land Of The Dead and although it's been getting bad press definitely want to see Diary Of The Dead.
Zombie films kick butt, also Shaun Of The Dead, 28 Days and Weeks Later have a very fond place in my heart.
Halloween No No's Saw (any one of them), Hostel plus the sequel and Hatchet. I wanna jump out of my skin not barf it up. When will film makers learn this.
Well, I'll throw in a couple of recommendations for Do's:
The Changeling is a creepy, subtle haunted house/ghost story starring George C. Scott. It was made back in 1980 so it may be a bit dated for today's audience, but nonetheless, there are still some very chilling scenes. Of course, I'm a sucker for ghost movies, so I'm probably biased. Oh, and I hear there's a remake in the works, so it's probably a good time to catch the original.
The Haunting is another ghost movie, not to be confused with the more recent remake starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Owen Wilson (which I thought was wretched). The movie's based on the novel by Shirley Jackson (which, btw, is also excellent) about four people who agree to be part of a doctor's "experiment" by staying in a supposedly haunted house for a week or so. Weird, creepy things start happening, and it gradually becomes clear that "the dead are not quiet in Hill House" (to steal a line from the film).
Ginger Snaps is one of my favorite werewolf movies, and it's a weird blend of horror and a coming-of-age tale about two outcast sisters in high school who're "late bloomers" just hitting puberty. You think "that time of the month" is bad now? Try throwing lycanthropy in the mix. This movie's dark, funny, satirical, and a little twisted. It spawned a couple of sequels, but I think the original's the best of the bunch.
The Others is yet another ghost movie. (Can you sense a trend here?) This one stars Nicole Kidman as a mother living alone with her two kids and a few servants in a creepy old mansion, which seems to harbor a few spooks. It's subtle, atmospheric, gothic, and chilling, and I thought Kidman did an excellent job in the role.
Tourist Trap is probably much more obscure than the rest I've listed, but my brother and I did find it on DVD recently. It's one of those cheezy early-80s type movies about a group of young teenagers who find themselves stalked by some crazed masked killer -- pretty typical plot, but I remember seeing this when I was about 12 and it definitely left an impression. My brother and I watched it again a few years ago, and despite questionable acting and a predictable plot, it still had its disturbing moments. Maybe it's the different masks the guy wears, or all those mannequins, but I'd say it's certainly worth a rental.
I can probably come up with plenty more, but I'll stick with those for now.
FFS? What's that mean? I'm not hip to all the chillin' gangster lingo these days.
And yeah, I'd rather have an original movie, and from the looks of it the new Changeling wont be a complete remake of the original, but it's Clint Eastwood man.
CLINT EASTWOOD. He could remake Star Wars and I'd be excited to go see it.
