Everybody's picking on Haneke....what about DAVID O' RUSSELL?

Silver Linings Playbook was ALL about the writing and the actors; that's why pretty much the entire cast got nominations. David O' Russell was just their to point the camera at them. That's...about it. In terms of creative directing, there wasn't much going on on his part, even The Fighter made more actual, ya know, choices, than SLP did. Say what you will about Amour; but at least Haneke was TRYING to do something unique and artistically different. O'Russell just made a kinda better version of Garden State.

Come on, No Excuses Ben Affleck should have took Michael Haneke's position.

The directors pick which films are nominated for best director. The entire Academy votes on best picture. The Academy loves Ben Affleck ... the directors not so much. There is no plan or conspiracy. The directors (the people who are experts on directing) just thought there were five better directed movies. It could still win best picture.

I think it's going to be Beast of the southern wild.

Apollo 13 all over again. Win all the other awards but loses Academy Awards due to no directing nomination.

I think you're right, I think Argo will get Best Picture this year and take everyone by surprise.

Or they just didn't want him to get any in one night.
