Thing is Iceland doesn't have as much to lose as letting a majority of europe's and all of the US' banks fail seriously they don't have our tech industries, nor our large bussiness (in terms of actual size). We need tougher laws on Banks but letting them fall wouldn't do our economies good.. also Iceland is still recovering from their faults in financials.

...that wouldn't be good. imagine if all the banks in a country went bankrupt....if they closed major and smaller companies would no longer have access to their money! and you'd have companies sstoring MILLIONS of physical dollars inside their own walls..
