I can understand an emotional involvement; however, the way it is directed (With a few exception of the Dream sequence) gives an awkward contradiction to the actual emotion. Constantly shooting someone's face is usually made to raise tension mainly in horror films or something atmosphere heavy. It feels unnecessary at parts and weirdly affective with others. I get where Tom Hooper was going, but it would have been more effective with a more visceral director while Hooper is an actor's director.

The close-ups didn't bother me as much as the needless shaky cam and dutch angles, and even then, they didn't annoy me THAT much. Having said that, though, none of the technical problems diluted the overwhelming emotional experience I had coming out of the film, and I'd easily say it's my favourite movie of the year.

That wasn't the tv version, it was the '98 movie version with Liam Neeson :-)

I was disappointed only because everyone else was so good. They should have got Geoffery Rush since he did play the same character in the TV version and he is a good singer. My problem just lies in Tom Hooper's piss poor direction.

I wasn't a fan of Rusell Crowe singing in Les Mis.
