Jack, I don't know know
Josh, I know a lot namely that J.J. hasn't shown me in his career he has the sensibilities George had when making new hope or Iriving making empire. Nor has he shown he can direct sword fights on the levels of the empire let alone the prequels (which while they weren't great or anything they did have good sword fights) and the CG clone wars.
Matt I feel star trek neeeded him it was a dying franchise he helpped rebulid.
