I agree with that - really i was grasping for a word and it certainly is not graphic by any means - i just saw more that what i'd think you'd usually see in a movie with that subject matter - yes i do agree it didnt really cross new boundaries but felt like it was going to at times - At this point in JGL's career a movie like this would probably even make him shine even brighter - a shame ppl don't really know about it

Visual? I don't think so. I watched the movie three times and if you look closer, most of the hard stuff is implied but never showed at the exception of the rape scene.

I'm pretty sure if anyone asked the kids in the movie what they were actually doing in their scenes, they had no clue. The editing is that great, the gruesome parts happened later when your imagination started to fill in the gaps.

A lot of people asked the last three years for a oscar nomination for JGL because he's now the red dot on the map but his first oscar worthy performance was in MS IMO. It was HIS "Requiem for a dream". Unfortunatly the movie got some much hate just because of the subject and now we're all praising his "cleaner"  works when the guy is in autopilot mode.

PS I hope you didn't make the same mistake i did. I saw Manic, Brick and Myterious Skin the same night in a row. Needless to say, the day after was pretty gloomy O_o

It was 2004, I can't say it was a bad movie - its just the subject matter is extreme and its more "visual" in its extremities than i expected. Good acting i cannot deny

Looks like he was going for a breakout role. Guess that's what it takes to show you have range these days. How long ago was that? He looks young as hell in it.
