Argo was my favorite movie this year. It's a shame the Academy ignored Affleck. I think the Golden Globe nominations for 2012 are much better
Comment by Dorian Gray on January 10, 2013 at 10:57am Noticing the lighting isn't on the top of my list and things I look for in a movie but sure it was good in Lincoln I just thought the others were better. The scenes in Shanghai in Skyfall were the best shot and lit stuff of this group imo
Comment by The One They Called Chucky on January 10, 2013 at 10:51am You didn't notice the lighting of Lincoln? The immaculate framing that's reminiscent of Orson Welles' The Trial or Citizen Kane (Deep Focus photography in low lighting conditions, for the most part)? Whoever the gaffer on the Production was better damn sure have been paid well.
Comment by Dorian Gray on January 10, 2013 at 10:47am If I had to rank this years Cinematography noms I would go 1.Skyfall, 2. Life of Pi, 3. Anna Karenina, 4. Django, 5. Lincoln.
I really liked Lincoln but I don't think it was shot as well as those other films. There was nothing really visually striking or that stood out to me as amazingly shot like I found in the other films.
Comment by The One They Called Chucky on January 10, 2013 at 10:41am Skyfall, beautiful? Yes. Certainly. Best looking Bond film since You Only Live Twice (when Freddie Young of Doctor Zhivago/Lawrence Of Arabia fame took the role of Cinematographer), but then again, with practically every year except '07, Deakins I feel didn't deserve the Oscars because there were better shot movies out there. Regardless of whether he's been nominated 10 times SHOULD be irrelevant, as if there's anything to be hated about the Oscars, particularly when Film Buffs and Cinephiles look back upon awards of years past, it's the fucking "due Oscars", as they only rob the rightful winners.

Comment by Dorian Gray on January 10, 2013 at 10:37am Skyfall was fucking beautiful and Deakins has been nominated like 10 times and never won.
I would have taken Haneke out for Affleck and Lee for either Tarantino or Bigalow
