Agreed, the western world wants to point to a villain and a hero in the movie without understanding how little malice most of the characters they point to as villains actually have. It is a fascinating world that he creates and motivations that are plausible.

Most people say that Princess Mononoke is about man vs nature. They fail to realise that the film is about so much more than that. None of the sides are actually good or evil, they are just trying to survive in a cruel, unforgiving world. The animals attacked Iron Town because they were destroying their environment, Iron Town was doing this to defend themselves from samurai armies and shooting the forest spirit to defend Iron Town (the people to be precise), the hunters were hunting the forest spirit to make a living in this world. Everything is grey.

Avatar would have actually been good if the Navi were brutal savages and if we saw how life was on earth, especially how much the resource was needed. That film swept aside how the Navi were a race of mary-sues that were unwilling to develop or cooperate. Notice how these are meant to be peaceful yet are familiar in warfare?

Pochahontas and Dancing with Wolves seemed ot forget how savage native americans were.

The Last Samurai seemed to forget what the samurai actually were before the wars ended.

I wish people would associate it with Star Wars Return of the Jedi, a lot of key plot points were STOLEN from that film. Proves James Cameron hasn't got an original idea for story or concept in his head.
