After the reviews started to come in from St. Anna, I passed on it. I don't know what Spike Lee was trying to do with the movie. I know that it was based on a book, but why couldn't he take a book that was more historical accurate than fiction?
Thanks for commenting on my neglected blog post. Glad to see another movie score enthusiast. I put the next 5 up -- I combined them with the others into a single blog post. Look for it!
The only thing is, Michael Collins is really more of a "Mainstream" biopic, and as such it isn't as "hard hitting" as "The Wind" is. Personally, I would recommend that you watch BOTH, but watch Michael Collins first to do two things...
1) Help set-up The Wind. It's important to know the IRA's issues and what causes the civil war between Free Staters and IRA in Ireland.
2) The Wind, goes more into the Protestant/Catholic aspects of the conflict. This alone makes it a more "accurate" movie, but also will cause PROBLEMS in the mainstream. Because of that, Michael Collins is a much better recommended "starter" movie.
Out of the two, I couldn't say which one I enjoy more as they both really are powerful films. For story and accuracy I lean more towards The Wind. But for production values and cast/direction I lean towards Michael Collins. Without a doubt they are great movies, but I'm going to say that Michael Collins gets a 8/10 out of me cause it does make you question yourself after watching, which ironically makes your points of view on Ireland's struggles more firm. The Wind that Shakes the Barley would get a 7/10 from me.
Remember there's a difference between "Limited" run and "Wide Release". Going by the wide release, 300 came out in '07.
But it DID have a limited run in '06 that was for festivals because of Snyder's wanting to appeal to the "artistic" crowds.
Dude, your comment about Mr.Freeze was the best idea I have heard since The Dark Knight came out. It's the most awesome idea yet and would fit in Nolan's universe like a glove. I think it would be a bit diffictult to keep it from being rated R but who knows? Awesome thinking bro.
The ones with "quotes" on the movie lists are normally ones that have had extremely memorable quotes, or are popular FOR the quote only. Like For a Few Good men, most people don't like the movie as a whole, but they all know the quotes.
That was a picture of the original Lord of the Flies. I couldn't find any "good" ones to use for the 1990 one. It was all "generic" kid looking stuff that made it hard to tell what it was from.
You'll be surprised to know that a lot people I know know here don't have a clue who that band is which is sad. You should do yourself a favor and check out another local favorite group of mine the Octopus Project.
This is for Spillers who like going out regularly like myself. From now on I will regularly organize nights out with other Spillers and we'll do a pub crawl, go bar hopping or go out clubbing. These are not Spill Parties. These are Spill Outs

Suffice to say, they deviated a little from his original vision, which is much more nightmarish than in the film.

So, it's a really close call.

Thanks for the friend invite as well.
