Might as well ask why sci-fi movies in the 50's were so cheesy. Or why people put up with hundreds of clone sitcoms and cop shows in the 80s. Tastes evolved.

My opinion about the religious HP stink is that anyone raising a stink about it isn't all that bright. Hell, even the damn VATICAN gave it their approval.
There are quite a few excellent comic stores here in Austin but the big guy is "Austin Books" which we may try to get an in-store LEOG recording for. We'll see.
Still haven't found time to hit the comic shop yet, I'll pick up Walking Dead along with the rest of my monthlies then. I assume it must be good for you to have mentioned it.
You're right about that Spectacular Spider-Man/Amazing Spider-Man comment, but I have yet to see an animated superhero cartoon episode that can affect me emotionally the same as an exceptional issue of a comic.
