Thoughts on Robocop movie night. Very insightful, I watched the movie immediately before without the commentary and while I think Robocop is pretty over the top and cheesy and a bit dated, it was enjoyable, the part with the guy covered in toxic waste has great practical effects. Not looking forward to the sequels. Are they worth watching right before alone or is it not worth it and I should just watch it with your movie night? Iv'e heard the comment about movie quotes so many times, I knew what you were gonna say, I somewhat agree about lines becoming famous by accident, but think that most of them were played consiously. Every now and then, a line unintentionally picks up and becomes memorable, but when you look at a lot famous movie quotes, many of them had weight when they were filming and being written. The line, "Frankly me dear, I don't give a damn." was written at a time where bad words in movies were unheard of and it was created very specifically. If there's a line with a pause before it or it's used twice, that's a clear it was intentional. In Terminator 2: Judgement Day, "Hasta La Vista" is spoken like three times. John Conner teaches the Terminator and Cameron memorized that and used it again at a pivotal moment. And it was great, but obviously when Arnold shot the T-1000, there was a pause, all the lighting was focused on him, he said it with movie-feel-good certainty and boom! It was used earlier to add meaning to add that scene. And heck, there are movie quotes that become famous before the movie even comes out. In The Dark Knight Rises, they even
