It's not that horrible, but after prolonged exposure, it really starts to get to you. Especially when you've seen the alternate versions of the same holiday.
I probably come off as some gumpy old Scrooge during this time of year, but it's a pet peeve of mine.

Oh God, don't get me started on Christmas in Japan...
Actually, get me started, I love ranting about it:

So anyhow, I'm not much of a religion fan, if you couldn't already tell, but a day that is essentially made for people to celebrate compassion and good will towards each other is something I totally agree with. I have many fond memories of Christmas, even with those moments of childhood "gimme." I did go to church as a child and while the whole belief in God thing has sort of gone away (Had a bit of a falling out with God ever since reading the book of Job) I loved the spirit of it all, with people singing and smiling and rejoicing. Christmas morning was great with family and showing our appreciation and love for each other. These are things I look back on with fondness and nostalgia.
Japan has taken this treasured season of giving (and gimme) that I loved so much and pretty much twisted and distorted it into a second Valentine's day. Christmas in Japan is a day for lovers and romance. Sure, kids still get gifts from Santa, but after puberty, it's all about getting it on. Gifts are given only to children and significant others. I once gave a good friend a Christmas gift and got stared at by everyone as if I were insane. I was actually asked by someone: "You give gifts to your friends on Christmas? ... WHY!?"
So, it's bad enough that I get the fact that I'm single shoved violently in my face every Valentine's day, but I get it shoved in my face on a day that I used to love because it was supposed to be about loving everyone. To put it bluntly, I despise the day in Japan because of what the culture has done to it.

I think that's awesome :)
I hope your mom appreciates it. Not enough people express their love for their parents these days. I give my mother a kiss on the cheek every mother's day. It's embarressing as Hell for me, but she really loves it.

I don't know, I really don't. I don't keep up with any of the Soaps at all, and never have. Although, I sort of feel bad about them going off the air one-by-one, because I do recall having to spend a LOT of days with my Grandmother and Great-Aunt watching them as I was a child growing up.

Hey Zeek.....I'm working some 12 hour days this week, so I'm not ignoring your portfolio, I just haven't had 2 seconds to catch my breath. I hope all this work pays off.

I preordered the blueray from the US since I didn't want to wait for the release next month over here. (That and District 9 whish has no release date for Japan...goddammit...) Everything I've heard about 500 Days just screams to me that it's a movie that's going to hurt me something good over and over again with all the "I've been there" and "I know the feeling" moments. I've been looking forward to it for so long. I love sappy rom-coms that deal with love and romance in a somewhat realistic and close-to-home way.

I'd agree, but it's just that I've told myself "that's it! I quit playing this stupid game!" so many times I might as well wear it on a T-shirt. So, I may sound the part of the cynic, but deep down I'll always be a hopeless romantic hoping the next girl I'll me will be "the one..."
This is why I'm so looking forward to seeing "500 Days of Summer"

Yes you do.. To much porn is bad for a growing artist. You lose your focus.. literally.

Yeah....the nickname is buggin' the hell out of me. I almost would rather go by "Padawan" again.

As for the gifts, you shouldn't have to apologize. The fact you were kind enough to get gifts for the three of us redeems any delays from amazon. Seriously, thank you, and don't worry about it!

Yeah, I used to fall for girls left and right. Anyone I met would be an S.O.-candidate. Experience has taught me to keep everyone off that list unless I know I have a chance, and even then, write their names in pencil and not pen.

I think we're both at the bottom of the barrel on that one...

Wait a sec, if you haven't been on a date in 26 years, what was that bit about an old flame showing up? Or was that someone you courted but never went on a date with?

That would be an Indigo Lantern trait. A Blue Lantern functions on hope and only hope. :)

Hey! Geez! Sorry I missed your last post, I am having a mayhem month, and it's only the 3rd.

Fish didn't bring your portfolio last time I saw him. Is it possible to send it to my gmail? I know gmail will compress certain things as a google document.

Niiiiice, you got Grant the Locke figure :)
I don't know why but seeing him happy cheers me up immensely.

I can totally relate to the "not being a party guy thanks to being stressed out from work."
Of the 3 reasons I mentioned earlier, all 3 have been dropping in satisfactory level drastically in the past few weeks. Now I'm being forced to participate in a year-end party... Bleah...

Ahem...

It is awesome! Truly awesome! Thanks so much!

Damn...
I've been told that there are only 3 reasons why someone will remain at any particular job: Good pay, easy work or enjoyable environment. If even one of these is maintained to a satisfactory level, the chances a person will quit drops dramatically. Which of the 3 is keeping you?
