No it was not the best of that year sure but all I want to do is watch it again and again!
This movie was solid, intricate, and visually puzzling which made it a pleasure to watch. I loved it and it is up there with Inception and Eternal Sunshine for me.

Let's agree to disagree, i thank you.
Reservoir Dogs is a film I loved and many hate and many do love Usual Suspects so I suppose that is the beauty of spill.com, we all love to disagree about movies. Never any hard feelings in doing so.
No problemo amigo.
The Usual Suspects had an awful retro noir opening that was followed by a hazy, murky shot of an interrogation room with Verbal in it. Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey) does not sell the character. At first I thought he played one of the best liars and monsters in recent film history, but no, the screenplay was written like this and yet the twist feels weak although I give it lots of credit for surprising me and making me wag my finger.
And these are police officers?!?! See The Departed for god sakes this is embarrassing, that film had great cops! The cops are pg cliche and the man interviewing Verbal throughout the film is stupid for not putting together all the pieces sooner (yes I am aware that more vital info was revealed at the end but still).
The Usual Suspects bugs me, but there were some parts I thought were greatly entertaining at first. When they buried the Mexican with their hands, the police taxi service.... When this film comes to fruition it doesnt add up. And Evan, I don't know why? I don't criticize this film because it left a bad taste in my mouth I criticize it because it has no regard of how we will react to what is shown. The acting doesn't sell any emotion or give off MISSION FN IMPOSSIBLE!!! type vibes. Even if you love this film you know in the back of your head that it is disjointed and not nearly as cool and complex as Reservoir Dogs. Me and Roger disliked this movie for completely separate reasons and I agree that he left out some reasons of why he hated it.
As a cinephile, I would have felt average about this film at it's release. But even then it was a "guessing" film that was not as good as other heist films like Reservoir Dogs, which kept us entertained and gave us the OMG twist at the end. I also did not like Usual Suspects because it is very overhyped and overdone with little to no consideration of our reactions. See Memento.
Thought I'd add this here, because that discussion is a damn mess; Figured you'd cop out with the ass kissing comment, exactly as I had predicted, as well as being predictable in general (maybe I am psychic). Although, it is a second opinion, I'm afraid. You're just disillusioned in, once again, you're own ignorance and arrogance. However, you're final paragraph, is deliciously hypocritical.
Regardless, thanks for playing. Been a while since I got to indulge.
Melissa Leo was SO average, she was good but not oscar worthy great she's suppose to knock me out of my feet. Amy Adams on the hand did what Melissa Leo could not and that is be hard and soft at the Mark Wahlberg she deserved it more than Melissa. Haliee was just phenomenal and wowed me more than Melissa. And Chloe was good but she was kind of cliche in my opinion not really oscar worthy in my opinion.

Commenting back on what you said, first off thank you for looking at my profile and commenting i enjoy reading all negative and positive.
I kind of hate over hyped films, that detracted from my viewing of Kings Speech and Dark Knight, (I gave neither one a perfect score)
Se7en could have been great if it wasnt so, itself....
Okay i did not like The Usual Supsects very much, why are people calling it the greatest movie ever made? It has one of my favorite endings though.
Unforgiven
No Country For Old Men
And The Shawshank Redemption are 3 of my favorites.
