The ever-rising and intensifying of the genre of zombie films is making me very happy :)
It is a style that can be approached as either a tough sci-fi piece (28 Weeks Later), a horror film (Dawn of the Dead 1978), or a comedic gore-fest (Zombie Strippers). Zombieland falls under the title of a comedy. Basically being about a group of people that are forced to team up and survive during the zombie apocalypse. And they are forced to stick together even though nobody truly trusts anyone and they are in constant danger.
Focused around 2 men: the tough merciless cowboy (Woody Harrelson), and the awkward 12-year-old looking strategist (Jesse Eisenberg), and two girls: the older bad-girl sister (Emma Stone), and the little girl (Abigail Breslin). But, sometimes the actors fall flat on these roles. Coming off as annoying or disposable at times. This, mostly falling upon the girls in the movie. They make bad decision after bad decision, and the director (Ruben Fleisher of Rob and Big) established early-on that you aren't really supposed to connect or feel pity of them overall. You get irritated at them at times, and there were points where i really wished they weren't in the movie at all. Eisenberg was just kind of there, nothing much else. He was the main character and narrated a good portion of the film, but he felt like a prop piece more than once in situations where they are working together or just moving around the land. But! then comes Harrelson... he saved all of them by being the badass he was in this movie. He was tough, but you could still relate to him and he constantly brings forth the laughs during fights and interactions with the others.
look at that stare...

An odd thing I didn't expect going in though was how short this was. Being less than an hour and a half long (80 min), I was kind of wondering why I had to pay so much for a ticket. doing the math in my head, I payed a dollar for every 8 minutes, which just felt a touch high. The length suits the movie b/c if it was any longer there would be parts that dragged most likely. Because it seemed every time you would start to get even the slightest bit bored, the zombies would come along and you were having a blast again
Great fun and short film.
You'll love it and have an amazing time.
Just recommend that you see a matinee showing for the reduced price
