If it's crap... We'll tell you

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Zemeckis is negotiations to direct a remake of Yellow Submarine for Disney.

Yellow Submarine was a 1968 animated feature about a soldier called Old Fred who meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland. Among the group's encounters are the Blue Meanies, music-hating creatures.

Disney had no comment on the deal, which is in the thick of trying to acquire the rights to the music to the film.

Like all Zemeckis productions, Yellow Submarine would be done in performance capture and would also be a digital 3D endeavor.

That Guy, by definition, a remake of a Beatles movie is fucked up from the very beginning.

WTF? Not only NO, but HELL NO! It is a classic all on it's own. Now I heard Z man was talking about using his new play toy (Motion capture) to do another "Roger Rabbit" OK, I'd be on for that. And I don't care if he is stuck on "motion Capture" All great artist have phases they go through and his work & experimentation will lead to others. But lets get original shall we. Next thing we hear Disney & Z man will want to make Pink Floyd's "The Wall". Now I can think of a huge pile of rock songs that would make trippy CGI movies, etc. From scratch and not have to redo a classic

all I can say is i love the original, and this will never be better. The best thing it could do is to introduce Beatles music to a new generation. And I'm not really for Disney making it.

Ever since Beowulf, Zemeckis has been gradually losing his sanity. While I liked The Polar Express, I feel he's been getting a tad too obsessed with the whole 'motion capture animation' thing.

I remember frowning at yet another retelling of a Christmas Carol, but to remake Yellow Submarine is bordering on the upsurd.
