'You're Next' Finally Gets A Release Date

Lionsgate has announced an official release date for horror film 'You're Next.' Directed by Adam Wingard ('A Horrible Way to Die'), 'You're Next' centers on a family reunion violently interrupted by a pack of savage killers. Barbara Crampton ('Re-Animator') and Sharni Vinson ('Step Up 3') star; Simon Barrett ('V/H/S') penned the script. The film played to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival as well as Austin's Fantastic Fest back in 2011 before being picked up for distribution by Lionsgate. Unfortunately however, that distribution kept being delayed. It got to the point that any theatrical release seemed unlikely. Finally now the studio has confirmed that they will be releasing 'You're Next' in theaters August 23rd, 2013.

If you've been following the site for a while, you're already aware of how much we love this movie. I have been gnashing my teeth and pulling out my hair trying to figure out why Lionsgate was sitting on 'You're Next.' Granted, I understand that not all festival films are necessarily marketable, and that they can sometimes play to more niche tastes. 'You're Next' however is a slick, bloody, and unstoppably crowd-pleasing film. It looks and feels like a studio horror movie, except with a devilishly clever premise and a wholly original design. Is August the perfect time to release this film? I'm not sure. I think it would play like gangbusters in October, and would standout among whatever horror selections the other studios could march out. And yet there is something to be said for the surprisingly successful August weekends. In any event, I am really excited you guys finally get to see 'You're Next.'

What do you guys think? Are you interested in seeing 'You're Next?' Is August a good month to release a horror movie?
