yogi bear is a film that show us that a film based on a 70s/80s cartoon can be for the family. not just for the 0-8 years old. like that age they laugh their head off with the film. teenages like ten laughs out of it. but for the parnets five to six luaghs out of this film. i'll get it a reatel for a person show want to see because their saw the show as a kid. for a family i'll get it a matiee.

That thing Cyrus said about doing it in the woods is the funniest thing he's said all year. I literally fell out of my chair at that. And I'm with Cyrus on the tourists thing; if a million "largest balls of twine" can stay in business, so could Jellystone with their talking bear.

 

I would say that there are three redeeming qualities about this movie:

1: It doesn't try to pretend it's anything other than a cheap family film.

2: Nobody in this movie looked or sounded like they were doing it for the money (Justin Timberlake especially -- he's at his "I'll only do it if it's fun" stage for sure).

3: The movie is, at the very least, better than the average viewer will expect it to be.

 

It's sort of a guilty pleasure movie. Yes, it's the same low-brow comedy they used in every other crappy cartoon-on-the-big-screen movie, but without any of that excessive toilet humor or "trying to be hip" crap that we detest all those other movies for. This wasn't a GOOD movie, but if I ever have kids, this is one of the movies I won't dread the thought of having to watch with them.

 

I'm with Cyrus though. I'm a firm believer that young kids shouldn't go to the theater (or restaurants) at all, so if it's mostly geared towards the kids, I'd consider it a high rental.

The cartoon was simple but they had a better story line in "Hay there, It's Yogi Bear"

Huh, really nice surprise that this didn't turn out that bad.  I am with Cyrus and not liking this type of Hannah Barbara (sp?) stuff as much.  Thank y'all for enduring the pain of seeing this potentially shitty movies during the busy film critic season!
