King of the Koopas posted a statusInteresting experience when I was at the mall yesterday:
I was at FYE, looking through the animated shows, shorts, and movies they had to offer. I picked up a few US releases, then made my way to the anime section of the store. I looked through what they had to offer, but found nothing of interest, and decided to move on. Apparently, an anime fan that was inches from me didn't take too kindly to my actions, and started making comments about it, acting as if I was an uneducated dolt, unaware that the Japanese are the "undisputed masters" of animation as he put it. But after putting this person in his place, he stormed out of the store, and that was that.
I bring this up because it makes me ask, and yes, I am aware that it may just be an experience that varies from person to person, this question: Why is it that when it comes to fans of animation and how passionate they get about the medium, it seems that anime fans are the ones on the ever-growing high horses?

Thanks for the comment.
Don't worry, I'm a fan of anime myself; I just wish more fans would show a little dignity.
But I can't say I agree with you on the idea that it's a fact that Japanese TV animation has alot more work and imagination put into it opposed to American TV animation; if you prefer one over the other, that's fine, but opinion isn't fact.
Comment by Donwun on July 11, 2012 at 8:50pm Although your story was kinda funny i see where your coming from and your question is a fair one.
The answer (which is my personal opinion of course) is that although anime production is on the increase it is still treated as a niche form of animation and quite a few people snub it and the people who watch it.
The superiority attitude of anime fans comes from the fact Japanese TV animation has alot more work and imagination put into it opposed to the westernised animation releases...excluding big budget companies such as pixar or disney. Sadly Anime is also more well known for its hentai-ish (anime-porno) reputation and as a result is disregarded in general as just being weird and overly perverse.
When you just walked past the anime section the guy in your story may have just thought another guy brushing anime off because its not american animation or something to that effect...i can only speculate...but that does not give him the right to bite your head off and lecture you about anime......thats what induces more anime hate.
Personally i dont like to think of animation as having borders in terms of region but sadly its clear each region has a clear style and way of doing things that seperate and possible segrigate people from each other.
The Spill crew themselves are known for taking pot shots at anime as a running joke for the same reasons i stated earlier (example) but honestly i'd just brush the incident off as one asshole just getting worked up over nuttin. Hopefully you won't let that incident affect your outlook on other anime fans since we are all not like that duche
