How's it going, to who's ever reading this blog (which is probably six people, but ok). Now if you read the title, you can see this blog post is me being pissed off at Marvel. Now this isn't first time, and mostly likely won't be the last, but this time is a little bit different. Now I don't call myself a die hard comic book fan, but I do call myself a fan. If you have read my previous blogs most of them are about Spider-man and what they have done with him. This time I going to take a stab at the WHOLE Ultimate universe. So let's start slashing...
Spoiler Alert- (Aren't those captions funny!)

Now I have been a fan of the Ultimate universe, mostly Ultimate Spider-man, but I have read the previous crossovers (Ultimates etc.). I have only been a fan for a short time, a mere year or so, but I have loved it. I like how it is completely separate from the original continuity and it is willing to take a different interpretation on each character. Before Ultimatum there hadn't been any major crossovers in the universe, some team ups here and there, but nothing major. Finally, Marvel gave us a major crossover and they gave it to writer... Jeph Loeb. This is the same guy who did Ultimates 3. Who is running Marvel, o wait...
Let the bashing begin!
As you begin to read Ultimatum you say to yourself, "Okay Magneto trying to kill off all of humanity and the whole universe, very original." I say if your going to take old storyline, at least put a new spin on it. Well, Jeph Loeb did exactly that. He mostly said, "let's see how many characters we can kill!." The problem I had was not he killed some characters (that statement doesn't give justice of how many characters he killed), but in how he disrespected each character with their death. Some were pointless, it felt he was just killing characters to give you the feeling that anybody might go. There were times where he was just trying to show gruesome stuff, just to show you. In these books Loeb played the shocked value more than actually trying to tell a good story, at least a decent one.
The only good stories out of Ultimatum was Bendis's writing on Ultimate Spider-man. I do agree with many, that the arc was a good story, but Loeb made Spider-man's death feel meaningless. It felt like he was killed off screen and no body told us that he was dead until ten pages down the road. I feel for a character that really started the Ultimate universe, to be disregarded like that made me angry.
By Ultimatum #4 they might as well have blown up the whole world and no one would have really cared. They had mostly killed off half of the Ultimate universe. The stories didn't get any better and it didn't matter. I would later hear that the whole universe was going to be recon or at least changed. My question was, what was the point? This was their master plan. I MEAN HOW COULD THEY JUST... easy, easy, it's only a comic book.
Final Thoughts
So what now. I guess we sit back and watch. Soon we'll have a
Brand New Spider-man, uhhh those words. Well may see a New Ultimates. Just remember people, those good Ultimate stories are still out there. Those will never change and that's what makes comic books great. So go back and read Ultimates 1 and 2. Pick up a few of the Ultimate Spider-man paperbacks. Go glance at the Ultimate X-men. Hopefully those stories will make it easier to forget Ultimatum and remember Bedis is coming back to write the next volume of Ultimate Spider-man, so all is good. And if that doesn't do it for you go check out the other Marvel crossover in the normal universe.
Well, I have no end for this blog so I take a bow.
I have to thank you for reading. Please comment your opinions, if you like me, if you dislike me, anything you want.
So once again thank you. And once again this message was brought to you by...
