When you have to shoehorn in Dr. Horrible and Nathan Fillion into the Emmy broadcast and have that not even be funny, you're trying to grab ratings. Nonetheless, aside from the obligatory "pat ourselves on the back" of the Emmys, Ricky Gervais was funny as always and one show I loved but thought wouldn't get recognized ended up doing so. So fo those who didn't watch it or just unable to find it, here's the list of nominees and winners:

Not much to say here. I do love 30 Rock, but at times I think there are other comedies out there funnier than it. Even still, the writing prowess of Tina Fey can't be denied. That being said, did anyone expect a win for Family Guy?

Surprise, surprise. I figured Tina Fey would coast through another year with an Emmy for Leading Actress, but Toni Collette did sell her role on United States of Tara with the multiple personalities. Glad to see her take one home for the show, though that means the only one who hasn't gotten one, as far as I know, is Sarah Silverman. She did have on a mustache tonight, so maybe she needs to play that up a bit more for the next season.

Again, no complaints, but this would be a difficult one for me. That being said, I think Conan O'Brien had the best nomination video with him ignoring all the friend requests from his writers on Facebook.

And of course, a tribute to all of the many in the entertainment business who died this year. Nice tribute and I enjoyed that they didn't have all of the most recent deaths come last and give them more screen time, but had them all spread out. Heck, I'd forgotten that Bea Arthur had died. So another Emmy year goes by. Some surprises, usual winners, and tributes to the dead. Here's to next year, just don't have Dr. Horrible and Nathan Fillion on the program.

I thought both House and Breaking Bad had better seasons than Mad Men

Taking Chance and Generation Kill got snubbed? THAT'S SOME OLE BULLSHIT!!!! Tony Shalhoub deserves to win an Emmy, because is still a good show. And, where the fuck is the CSI series and NCIS? This is really getting fucked up!
Comment by Right Click on September 22, 2009 at 11:56pm
I agree, Colbert deserved an award. He has brilliant writers, and I think he should have gotten something. I think Breaking Bad had a far better season than Mad Men.

When I heard the nominees for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, I thought it was a comedy bit. 4 of 5 nominees were from the same fucking show! Are you kidding me? Are there no other comedy series besides 30 Rock and Flight of the Concords that have writers? Or does a stork deliver scripts to all the other comedy series? I think 30 rock is a hilarious show, haven't seem much of Concords since I dont have HBO, but C'mon, guy!
Comment by Rabid Scotsman on September 22, 2009 at 8:49pm
Battlestar got shut out again. That show deserved much more love than that!

The Oscars winning an Emmy. How meta.

How the Daily Show beats out Colbert in anything is beyond me. While the Daily Show deserves respect for being on as long as it has been, Steven Colbert is just a funnier guy and has a much better team of writers than John Stewart.

And as for the Hugh Jackman song winning for best original song, maybe it's just Hugh Jackman's great performance but I enjoyed his number more than any of the other songs on that list. But then again, I'm a big Broadway fan so I love seeing Wolverine sing and dance.

I just don't understand anyone who doesn't enjoy this:

fuck, outstanding writing should go to entourge, and why the hell wasn't jeremy piven nominated for best supporting actor?

entourge is such a better show then 30 rock, and 30 rock only won for writing cause its had like, 9 people nominated
