It's the curse of adding the words 'the final chapter' to any entry in a film franchise: as soon as you've declared a movie to be the last in the series, it won't be. You could almost hear the chortling from audiences when those words appeared on screen for last year's 'Saw: The Final Chapter.' But the arguable ruse of the franchise's retirement is evidently starting to show signs of weakness. Recently, Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns appeared on CNBC. In addition to dancing around the possible merger deal with Summit Entertainment, Burns let slip that the 'Saw' series may not be as dead as Jigsaw's litany of victims. When discussing Lionsgate's various franchises and their futures, Burns mentioned that he's certain that someday we'll see 'Saw' 'back in the picture.' Does he know something he's not telling, or is this just conjecture?
Regardless of whether this is something actually in the works or just a lot of big talk, somewhere Tobin Bell is likely practicing his Jigsaw voice once again. We've made plenty of jokes about how Jigsaw is going to become the next Freddy or Jason in terms of longevity of franchise, and now it looks like 'Saw' is moving closer to achieving this dubious honor. It would certainly be fitting considering 'Friday the 13th Part IV' was also dubbed 'The Final Chapter,' only to prove to be not even the midpoint of the series. Is there a reason to continue this franchise beyond the pursuit of further box office returns? If there is, it's hard to see without a script or, heck, even an official announcement that another sequel is in the works. You can click here to see the rest of the interview.
Would anyone be interested in another 'Saw' film, or have you seen enough?

I liked the first two, and I'll admit, I think the idea is pretty cool. Most people say "Fuck those Gore Porn Movies" but there were some pretty interesting ideas behind it all in the beginning, if you ask me. A killer that has a certain set of morals and a "code" who puts people into traps who took their lives for granted before, so that they are able to change themselves. Sadistic, but hey, at least it's not your typical slasher film.
It's just that the majority of the films starting with the third one were terrible, and it became the "What crazy way can we kill these people" franchise. What pissed me off the most is when they started making some of the traps unbeatable. That defeats the point. I know it wouldn't happen, but if it were my choice, I'd remake them. Make the Saw films a trilogy, choose ONE director and stick with him/her, and keep Tobin Bell. Also, bring back Danny Glover.

They made too many of those films!
Comment by Beanie Archie on December 10, 2011 at 8:40am Saw offends me on a moral level and it has nothing to do with it's gore porn nature. Fuck those films.
Comment by The Dubya on December 9, 2011 at 9:59pm Just like I ignore all Final Destination movies past the second one, I just like to pretend that we live in a perfect world where Saw IV-3D never existed. =)
Horror movies are one of the cheapest kind of movies to make, so it's not surprising at all to see these folks try to cash in on something as profitable as this particular horror franchise for as long as humanly possible. As long as you slap the name SAW on it, people are gonna see it no matter what the fuck they do. They could have Jigsaw resurrected via ancient voodoo ritual and fans would buy into it, because after a point they go because of the name, not because the movies are any good anymore.
The thing is though can they still compete with the Paranormal Activity movies. The first one had its little underdog run where it dethroned the mighty Saw as the king of the Halloween box office. Have people moved on from one series to the other, and would they come back? I won't be exactly MAD if the latter happens, but I'm still hoping for the former.
Comment by demonknight on December 9, 2011 at 5:05pm I would love to see more Saw movies because it is a great franchise, the one thing I said was that they should have never killed Jigsaw in part 3 because after that parts 4,5,6, kind of dragged on a little, it would 've been better if he stayed alive, but they could also reboot it in a really good way with new ideas, that would be cool, because it's not Halloween if it's not Saw(lol), plus they are playing the Paranormal Activity movies the fuck out already, all they got to do is move the fuck out the house instead of continuing to live in the house knowing there is a ghost in it, the shit makes no scense, just move out!!!!!!!!!
Comment by RepoMan5000 on December 9, 2011 at 2:08pm As a sidebar, I always found it hilarious how Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter was released in April of 1984 and then Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning came out not even a year later in March of 1985. Even if they are going to continue SAW, at least they've taken some actual time off.
Comment by RepoMan5000 on December 9, 2011 at 2:04pm I'm always down for more Saw. The series has had ups and downs, but I'm a huge fan and I can see potential. Definitely think they should let it rest for a little while and come back with a fresh approach.
