Just when you thought there was nothing else they could do with vampires, Will Smith gets Biblical with it. The actor will apparently produce 'The Redemption of Cain' for Sony Pictures through his Overbrook Entertainment company. The project has finally been given the green light after apparently being in development for many years. The film promises to be an epic retelling of the story of troubled Old Testament siblings Cain and Abel...with vampires. At one point, Smith was set to direct and star in the film, though it is unclear as to whether that is still the plan. 'The Redemption of Cain' will be shooting in London, Jordan, and Morocco. The film is set to be cast over the next few weeks.
This isn't the weirdest vampire project I've ever heard about, but it's close. I wish I could have sat in on the pitch meeting for this. "So it's the Bible, but with vampires!" Maybe I'm just not remembering my Sunday school lessons well enough, but I'm fairly certain vampires did not play a part in any major story. I can't even begin to contemplate how undead bloodsuckers will play into this tale. Will Abel be slain by Cain and then rise from the grave to feed on the very few other people in the world at that point? If nothing else, this is a surprising endeavor for Will Smith to have such a vested interest. There are several important variables still at play here. Will Will direct, star, or just produce? What is the basic premise? Until we know these things, it's sort of hard to formulate an opinion on this project. You know, other than that it sounds pretty ridiculous.
What do you guys think? Could this concept work as a film? Would you want Smith involved beyond producing? If not, who would you choose as director? Star?

Comment by Cindy Anacleto on September 20, 2012 at 7:02pm As I understand it, there are these non-Cannon Bible books that have been floating around for more then a thosand years. Many of them tell some really cool, crazy stories. Stories about Adams first wife, Lilith, who is the ex from hell. Stores about Solomon having a power ring from god somewhat like Green Lantern's. He also had a book, a grand grimear full of spells where he could raise demons from hell and make them dance, sing and perform for the enjoyment of his court. Stories about the Aposels being able to fly, which gives us the story of Simon Megas and a really crazy bible movie. Anyway. In one of these books, it says that Cain, after killing his brother, wandered the earth and bumped into Lillith, his father's ex wife. They got married and founded a city called Channock that they populated with their vampire children. Now, if the minister had bible stories like that, I would have gone to church.
Comment by Jensen Ex on September 4, 2012 at 8:20am Sounds pretty interesting. It could easily be set in modern day. The Bible has some pretty great parables and stories regardless of it being a religious centerpiece.

Comment by dan smith on September 3, 2012 at 9:26pm Just one question. How many of his kids/wife is he going to shoe horn into it? if the answer if zero I'll give it a watch.
Comment by Dusty Yoshi on September 3, 2012 at 7:36pm Sounds like a movie I'd watch, we've seen Will adapt well to serious and gritty I think it could work rather well.

Comment by Victor P. on September 3, 2012 at 12:59am I never saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but if that did fine then I see no reason why this shouldn't do at least as well.
Comment by Mike on September 2, 2012 at 6:55pm Will Smith just makes the same movies over and over again.
