It's oh so good to be bad. Superhero movies, and to wit superhero stories in any medium, are often only as good as their villain. It's hard to know sometimes which we love more, the hero or the antagonist. But what happens when one villain must take on an entire cadre of beloved heroes? In filmic terms, this presents a monumental challenge for the actor playing that baddie. Fortunately for Joss Whedon's 'Avengers,' and for all of us in the theater, Tom Hiddleston was well suited to the task. He had already established Loki in 'Thor' and actually took the character to new, interesting heights in the massive hero team-up. As Phase 2 gets under way, and Whedon's first draft of 'The Avengers 2' resides with the Marvel execs, the question of whether we would see Loki again in that second assemblage became pressing. During a recent interview, Hiddleston was posed with this exact query, here was his response...

"I don't know, and that really is the honest answer. I know I've been known for obfuscation in other quarters, but I have no idea, I haven't spoken to Joss. He's definitely doing it. So I suspect not, only because I think that probably the audiences are tired of Loki being the bad guy. Maybe the Avengers need somebody else to fight. But I'd love to be part of it again."

First and foremost, I believe Hiddleston when he says he legitimately doesn't know if he'll be in the next movie. He admits to deflecting in the past, but I'm not even sure who beyond the Marvel honchos would have even read the script at this point to know definitively whether his character would be returning. And as to his comments about our potentially being tired of Loki...Tom, are you out of your Asgardian mind? For my money, Loki is the best villain the Marvel film universe has yet seen, so no I wouldn't say I'm tired of him. That being said, I think it would be unwise to make him again the principal bad guy for 'Avengers 2.' They should definitely explore their near infinite rogues gallery and change things up a bit. However, I would love to see Loki turn up in a small cameo; engaging in banter with his brother from behind the bars of a Asgardian prison. But perhaps that's what they were planning to do with him in 'Thor: The Dark World.' At any rate, I'm ok with Loki remaining a lasting part of the cinematic 'Avengers' canon.

What do you guys think? Should Loki make an appearance in 'Avengers 2?' Has he already been overused?

The main villain will be Thanos, so why would you want to see Loki in the next film again!!

I just want to see Thanos kick Captain America's ass.

Loki is the god of mischief, not evil.  There's been a few instances in the Norse legends and comics where Loki has done good, in his own peculiar way.  For example, in Walt Simonsen's run on Thor, Loki helps the Asgardians battle Surtur the Fire Giant.

I suspect if Whedon decides to bring back Loki, he would do something similar.  Of course, no one would know Loki's true intentions until near the end of the movie.

I absolutely LOVED his performance as Loki and the character in general. Always have. As much as I would like to see him again, it would be wise to focus on a new villain ^_^

Bring him back eventually, but don't force it.

Use him as a Hannibal Lector type character similar to Silence of the Lambs!

It wouldn't make any sense for Loki to come back as a villain. If he did come back there'd just be a case for executing all villains. One way they could bring him back is if they needed to use him in order to defeat the main villain. I'm always an advocate of using villains as heroes in certain cases. It just makes the scene look cooler when you have villains working alongside with you.

First we'll have to see his character development in Thor 2, to know if he'll be suitable for a role in Avengers 2.

BRING HIM BACK! YES! HELL YES!

I love the theory of him planning to get caught again. Some grander agenda in the work. I want a Loki with the infinity gauntlet. Loki vs Galactus. or Loki helping the Avengers vs Galactus...I just want more Tom Hiddleston. He plays the roll with such glee and just chews up scenery.
