Why the star wars prequels may disappoint, but not quite suck
Here's my reasons why the prequels dont suck (theyre not as good as the originals by any stretch of the imagination)
5) the action
yes, it doesn't matter that much if it shouldn't be the main draw of the film in the first place, but still, the action sequences were pretty great. technically, the movies are all wonderful
4) The villains
Now, I know these can't compete with Darth Vader, but in my mind, theyre fucking close. Darth Maul is so awesome and General Grievous....i just love him. so much. Count Dooku, meh, but fuck it, we got Jenga Fett (which made up for Boba Fett's bullshit death)
3)All the actors except Hayden.
I just don't like him, but honestly everyone else seemed to make up for it. Natalie Portman was a bit iffy, but good enough. Everyone else though was just excellent
2) The weaving into the original mythology
Now, as for the midiclorians (sp?), i understand alot of people got angry about that, but i choose to see it as a sortof religion vs. science point of view. But I have to say, I very much enjoyed all of the references, foreshadowing, and the overall transfer from trilogy to trilogy.
1) Episode III
The first 2 aren't terrible, but theyre not very good. They don't have much to tell and tehy each have pointless action sequences that just waste screen time (pod race, coliseum, etc.). but episode III gets down and dirty from start to finish. it concludes all the story lines and sets up the next movies so perfectly. (and we got general greivous! i love him...so much) Another wonderful draw of the movie is the complete lack of a certain annoying CGI fuckface. the problem with the movie? Hayden Christiansen pretty much. he doesnt do well at all. it's not as bad as 'Clones' but still not good.
Bonus reason) it spawned the excellent miniseries, Clone Wars (no not the new 3D animation crap)
As for the many flaws in the trilogy, i see them. They bum me out. They don't make me scream at the heavens and curse Lucas's name. I simply question some of the decisions he made. overall, i have deemed personally that the movies don't suck (while the first two border on being bad, but are mainly just mediocre and pointless) and can even be great at times. and i got General Greivous. I love him...so much

Bullshit. I went into Transformers 2 WANTING to like it. I liked the first one and was even willing to turn my brain off to enjoy it. Instead, I was routinely insulted and grossly underwhelmed by what is the biggest dissapointment of 2009. May Michael Bay suffer horrendously in Hell.

I didnt care to much for the first 2 even though i was there bright eyed and bushy tailed to see them. Although Episode 3 Was by far the one i enjoyed the most! I agree Hayden's acting was blah, but how he tied the stories in with star wars a new hope was GREAT. Also, the backstory for vader was nicely done.
I would LOVE to see him do the LAST COMMAND trilogy from the books. That was one of my favorites to read, but i am not holding my breath. I will be a star wars fan for life regardless,.

Honestly, its hard to compare any movies to SW 4 and 5, not even GL himself can top them. Granted Phantom Menace is a mess, Attack of the Clones is a decent movie. Revenge of the Sith is actually good too if you can ignore its 2 or 3 hiccups and enjoy it.

the prequels had a definite presence within my childhood (i'm 17 now) that is irraplaceable to me. i remember, vaguely, being introduced to the originals when i was 4 or 5 and i loved them too. however, with little respect for acting or conventional criticism for film at that age, i viewed the prequels, which i saw from the ages of 7 to 13, as being very close to the original in terms of quality. the funny thing is, episode 4, also directed by lucas, still holds up to that judgment i passed so long ago.
i do think, though, that people who criticize the prequels were those who saw the originals come out in the seventies and eighties when they were kids. everything is more romantic and exciting to people when they are children. so when the prequels came out, this generation of star wars fans were expecting something to wow them as much as it did when they were kids, and they were disappointed. it's like trying to enjoy a theme park when your fifty. you've been introduced to too many other facets and ideas of the world that you forget temporary thrills.
to me, the originals and prequels are much closer in quality than people thing. in fact, i enjoy episode 3 more than 4. i think the peoples' opinions whom should be used to judge this whole series are the ones who saw both series as children.
on a final note, the critics who liked the original star wars so much incorporated their awe of seeing crazy images in spaced in their reviews. people were amazed by the cinematic feats star wars achieved. however, the prequels couldn't do anything crazy for film because we've learned how to get pretty much everything projected onto a screen.

i dont feel like being written off as "that guy who liked the prequels AND indiana jones and the kingdom crapfest! hey, I bet he really liked transformers 2, terminator salvation, and watchmen!! hahaha!"
