MGM has purchased the rights to the classic children's picture book series 'Where's Waldo?' with the intent of producing a live-action film. No word yet on when we may see the wayward, candy-stripped hero on the screen or if the studio has any inclination on who they would want to cast in the role. While it may have been a while since any of us picked up a 'Where's Waldo?' book, the financial earning power of the character is staggering. The books have sold over 55 million copies worldwide and the bespectacled main character Waldo has also appeared in apps for the iPhone and iPad.

I know children's books have yielded profitable, and sometimes legitimately quality, family films over the years, but I just don't know about this move by MGM. There is going to have to be a serious overhaul of concept from page to screen, as no audience is going to abide 90 minutes of staring at crowded still images and being tasked with finding Waldo. Clearly a story will have to be developed that expands that concept. I wonder if any elements of the cartoon series will find their way into the film. I can almost guarantee that a current or former member of the 'Saturday Night Live' cast will find himself donning the red-and-white sweater and glasses when the time comes.

Or, if comedy troupe The Imponderables are correct, maybe we'll get a more action-centric 'Where's Waldo' like this...

There are vast amounts of novels out there...... pick one and make a movie out of it instead

........

There's just some ideas they just NEED to just stop with.

Hollywood execs, I implore you, you gotta pick a better method of choosing what to adapt than throwing darts at a dartboard with the names of random pop culture stuff on it. For fucks sakes this is just getting stupid.

@Josh Maxwell

Lol, I love this, the gruesome tragedy 'Operation,' oh god there's just to many and its too late, p.s. Dr. Pepper's awesome.

Okay...how the hell can they pull this off? Whoever pitched this idea to MGM should have been laughed out of the building. I'm sorry, but what's next? The Pinball Movie? Shoots and Ladders? Candyland? We already have a fucking Battleship movie... Captain Crunch? That guy's got a story to tell.  Wow I'm forgetting Monopoly!! that's a gold mine! Angry Birds is already happening...there's still Minesweeper though... I think if I continued on this stream of thought I could predict the next four years...what happens when the Film industry has tapped everything out, when it runs out of things to copy? Ahh yes...sequels. Pinball 2: Space Cadet. Candyland 2: Assault on Gumdrop Mountain. Shit...I'm not helping, next week half of these idea's will be picked up by this or that studio and I'm going have to argue for the rights to them because I'm part of the system and I want my million dollars too goddammit. So disappointing.

@Happy Birthday Roboto

Yes, he is. The picture's quality is bad due to it being a small resized picture but he's there.

He's dead center in the picture, close to the red and white-striped booth.

i think he's the guy over the red and white parasol?

@Racing Turtle

He's not in the picture at all! Trust me!

I know this is an article about a where's waldo movie or something... but can somebody please just tell me where he is in that picture up top. I've been staring at it for like 10 mins now and it's driving me crazy.
