What Would Sam Raimi's Lizard Have Looked Like?

I remember hearing something, way back when, about how Sam Raimi had originally planned on having The Lizard be the villain in 2004's 'Spider-Man 2' along with Dr. Octopus. This of course explained why there was a reference to Dr. Connors in 'Spider-man,' and why Dylan Baker makes an appearance as that character in the sequel. Evidently someone was able to convince Raimi that maybe that approach was too narratively cumbersome...something they failed to tell him prior to 'Spider-Man 3.' If you're curious as to what Raimi's Lizard would have looked like, artist Constantine Sekeris has the answer. On his website, among many other astonishing works, is this concept art for Spidey's reptilian adversary. Whether you're looking at the sketch or the rendered drawing, Sekeris' Lizard is pretty terrifying, more so in my view than the one we got in 'The Amazing Spider-Man.' Take a look at the artwork below and let us know what you think. And be sure to check out all the other fantastic art on Sekeris' site.

Smh Ya know Sam Raimi would have never used any of thes concepts. Look at the 1st concepts And actual mechanical helmets they built for the Green Goblin Its was bad ass. But I know Sam Raimi didn't use it because it wasn't his design. Sam Raimi never cared about the Spider Man franchise he just wanted to make his own goofy superhero movies like he did for horror with evil dead ( And Evil Dead was good because it had good actors Unlike Raimis Spider Man) that's why you had Spiderman 3 it's had nothing to do with the studios That was all raimi BS that he wanted to do at the time. I like amazing spider-man way better than any Spider Man film Sam Raimi did. because mark Webb decided to take the characters and story seriously and not just do a goofy film. Mark did a good comic book superhero film 1 that had action and have the right level Of comic book stuff in it.

Yay!  Only 9 years late. Why is this even news?  Character designs for a movie thats already been done. they shoud post this on The Facebook.

I don't like these designs OR the one they used in Amazing Spiderman. But I agree, these look scarier. I just don't know why everyone seemed to want the short snouted version of Lizard. And to people saying "well, they just wanted to make him look like how he did in his first appearence." Umm, no. He still looks REALLY different.

These look very similar to The Amazing Spider-Man design; too humanoid, short snouts. I've always been partial to his second form in the comics.

first one screams a creature from the guyver to me.....it just does. the second one is better, would have work somehow i think if sam did it but its more suited for comic book look than film to be honest.

Comment by Wes964 on January 2, 2013 at 7:53pm

That second pic is pretty bad ass. Might work better as a comic book Lizard than as a movie Lizard, though. Marvel! Make it happen! (And make real Spidey fight him. Not stupid "Doc Ock doing a two-bit Kraven's Last Hunt" Spidey.)
