Well, the trailer for the Last House on the Left got me looking forward for this weekend. Dark feeling, interesting plot, deranged brutality and the powerful quote, "Do you want to hear what I did to your daughter." To my great surprise though, the movie seemed to be a typical horror film, meaning there is no sound reason for the massacres of murders and you get to see interesting ways to kill a person with practical household appliances.
The movie opens up with someone being escorted to a prison, when his family manages to rescue him and kill his escorts. This leads to this family of criminals being on the run from the law. Two women, through several occurrences, manage to show up at the criminals apartment to smoke some weed. The criminals came home and make the decision to keep the girls in chance to keep themselves from getting caught. This leads to a few desperate attempts to escape and finally a rape which then lead to the girls deaths. Because of a storm and car crash, the family of criminals end up having to find shelter at the house of one of the girls they had killed. The parents manage to find out that they had raped there daughter and seek revenge against them all.
As I had said before, this felt like a typical horror film and though, it had a plot with potential but fell short and the movie never did make a full circle to my liking. The big saving grace for me was the character Krug, who pretty much is the head of the criminal family and his brother. The movie really followed these characters more than the others and I found myself cheering for at least one of them to live. Of course, the murders were fun to watch but there really isn't anything else. This movie did bring up a point about what would it take for you to take revenge against someone and I'll tell you, I did not agree with what hey did matching what happened to them.
I'm not going to give this a real rating because then you might be turned off from the movie. What I am going to do, is tell you to watch this with people who want to watch gruesome deaths because you will end up having a really fun time. But, one thing that this movie did great, was made me want to watch Taken again. If you haven't seen Taken you need to watch it before or after or just without watching "The Last House on the Left." Taken is by far the better revenge film comparatively and by itself.
