Introduction:

I never saw the Daredevil movie in theatres, but I tried my best to defend it from it's critics. I thought that the film itself was said to be much worse than it actually was. I still stand by this statement; while I don't believe that is was a travesty of epic proportions, it could have been much better. I later watched the director's cut, and the whole film became more understandable, and some of the scenes that seemed out of place in the original now made sense.

However, the biggest problem I had with the film was the Elektra storyline. For the ratings, I do see the benefits of throwing Jennifer Garner into tights and having her share a bed with the film's star, I just felt like she wasn't needed for the first movie. We as an audience were barely introduced to these characters, all of a sudden, the film is unsuccessfully recreating the comic's most popular and influential story. Why would I care for these people?

The real problem with the film was the story wasn't strong enough to carry the actors through it. Plus there were major changes to these characters from their source material. And while I can understand changing small things to make a shorter story flow, some of these characters were altered to their core, making them seem alien to what was shown before. Daredevil lets a guy die and can't escape any sound? Elektra is a spoiled rich kid who all of a sudden knows martial arts? Kingpin gets hit twice and falls down? What the hell movie?! Who are these guys? They're not the character's the fans know!

Since Daredevil, a slew of better super hero films were released into theatres. X2, Spider-man 2, Batman Begins, the Dark Knight, among many, many others.

Also, since the movies release, the horn-headed hero has been given some of the greatest stories of his career in comic book form. Brian Michael Bendis ended his (almost definitive) run and Ed Brubaker did an impossible job of creating a worthy follow up. With such a cornucopia of quality to pick from, Daredevil has no excuse not to make his next movie amazing.

The Idea:

Daredevil has one of the most underrated supporting casts in comics. My plan would be to create an introduction film that followed them around slowly introduced the situation, until it came to a climax at the end.

The Cast:

Before I go on with the story, I feel as though a brief description of all the characters is needed.

Matt Murdock/Daredevil: The title's hero, a blind lawyer by day, a costumed vigilante by night. Daredevil is a ninja (like Batman,) and has almost no superpowers, (like Batman,) but uses his status as a vigilante to get himself laid, (like Iron Man.) He's also Catholic.

Foggy Nelson: Matt's partner in law, an overweight bumbling fool who was one of the last people to find out about Matt's double life. He provides much of the comedy in the series.

Karen Page: Matt's (ex)secretary and on and off again girlfriend. She later got addicted to drugs and sold Daredevil's identity for a hit.

Ben Urich: A reporter that tries to get the scoop on Daredevil and the Mysterious Kingpin. He quickly finds Matt's identity but refuses to reveal it, thinking that Daredevil's activities are more important than a hit story.

Bullseye: Daredevil's arch nemesis, Bullseye is a hitman that never misses. He is responsible for killing almost every woman in Daredevil's life. He mainly works for the Kingpin.

Wilson Fisk/Kingpin: The Kingpin of crime of Hell's Kitchen, he is a huge tower of a man whose strength is only defeated by his cunning. The CIA has some eyes on him, however, the general public is only familiar with his philanthropist identity.

The Plot:

The first part of the movie focuses on Urich's story. He is a reporter who is narrating the movie. He's watching a ceremony of some sort, Wilson Fisk is accepting an award for his charity and actions for stopping organized crime. Ben notices Matt and Foggy, the lawyers, looking at the Fisk, all of a sudden, the police chief (or mayor) who is giving the award gets shot. (We later learn he was hit with a special card.) Chaos breaks out, we see Foggy try and get Matt away, and Matt is struggling against him. We see how Urich's mind thinks, he sees the reporters crowding around the Mayor and knows that's not the real scoop. He trusts his instincts and follows Fisk. We cut to Foggy who is looking panicked, he's lost Matt and is afraid his friend is trampled. Cut back to Urich who is being stopped by two armed guards, stopping him from getting to the Fisk's limo. Looking up, Urich sees someone in a devil costume fighting another man on the rooftops.

We get some exposition from the narration, Urich looks at the papers and we see the sensationalism that's going on in the streets. We see Urich bribe his way to the evidence locker, the cop there tells him it's the strangest thing, the card was what was used in the assassination attempt.

Urich's trail takes him to Nelson & Murdock's ghetto law firm. There he is greeted by Karen Page, who he asks some questions to. Foggy Nelson interrupts Ben and Ben asks why they protected an old Crime Boss the Kingpin was trying to take down. Matt comes into save Foggy and claims that the crime boss was innocent of the accusation and put in as a fall-guy. When Urich asks how he knows the ex-boss is telling truth, Murdock just smiles. Foggy bumbles as he tries to get Urich out. We hear Ben's narration that he needs to check up on Murdock, the audience sees that Matt and Karen are having a bit of an office fling as Foggy tells Ben that nothing goes on in the office without him noticing.

We now focus on Karen and Matt, Karen is telling Matt that the reporter is getting too close and that they should quit taking such controversial cases. Matt scoffs and tells her to keep Foggy out of his way as he changes into his red tights. Karen looks back and it's a look of love and worry. We now start up Matt's/Daredevil's narration. Daredevil (DD) does the narration of how the city is going to hell, he sees thugs shoot a cop and run. He jumps down and beats the crap out of the thugs, leaving them for the cops.

Under the cover of darkness, he goes back to where he had his first fight. We get a bit of a flashback as he recreates the moves in his head. He claps and uses echo location to see if there's anything he can use. He finds a steel edged card stuck in the side of the roof, (thrown during the fight,) and wonders why the cops haven't looked up here.

We see Bullseye holding a joker card, a slicing it in half with an ace. The guy he's playing with says the joker was wild. Bullseye mentions it's not as wild as him and kills everyone at the table. The Kingpin strolls into the game and makes a quick quip about how cards are all a lie, because in reality, an ace in the hole can never beat the king. Fisk mentions how he did his job wonderfully, but noticed that he Bullseye was seen and fought someone on the roof. Bullseye mentioned how the guy didn't get a good look at his face. (Optional, we can flash back to Bullseye's view of the fight.)

Bullseye demands that he get his pay and threatens the Kingpin, Kingpin just picks him up by the neck with one hand and says that Bullseye is just a convenience to him, not essential, and that payment belongs to Fisk until he tires of it and decides to give away the scraps. Kingpin then throws a bottle of pills to Bullseye and says that they should help.

Cut back to Daredevil in another fight, the cops come and shoot at him. Daredevil realizes that the cops thinks he's just another threat. He runs, and we cut to him at a church, in confession saying that he's trying to be a good man. The priest is good for a laugh, saying stuff like "Matt, you're a lawyer by day, a daredevil vigilante by night, you can't get more Catholic than that." We realize that Matt is trying to be a better person.

Just then, two mob bosses come in and sit at the back, Matt seems to recognize them, but asks the priest who they are. We realize they're two mob bosses, and the priest is getting up to get them to leave, but Matt overhears that they're coming to meet the Kingpin, and Matt stops the priest. All of a sudden, Bullseye comes strolling in. Matt recognizes him and leaves to get on his costume. Bullseye kills one of the bosses, but is hit by a billy-club before he can finish off the next one. Daredevil and Bullseye fight. Bullseye kills the second boss and get's Daredevil's billyclub in the process. He's going to kill the priest when Daredevil takes out the card he got from the roof and breaks Bullseye's arm with it. Bullseye escapes.

Urich is back at the law firm asking where Matt is. Foggy tells him Matt went to confession, and kicks Ben out. Foggy is pleased with how he's getting rid of the guy and making Matt's life earlier. Once on the street, Ben gets a call from his newspaper and here's that there's been a sighting of Daredevil at the church.

Wilson Fisk is now at a conference, mentioning how since the attack, he was pooled all his resources with the city's police to quickly take down organized crime. As he talks, we see Bullseye go to one of the mob boss's headquarters and tells them that there's a new kingpin in town, and that he'll double their salaries if they stay on. One mentions loyalty to the old boss, Bullseye mercilessly kills him. When the other gang member pulls a gun, Bullseye just looks at the camera and smiles. Everyone in the room dies and the tape is leaked to the media.

Fisk is talking to Urich, as they finish playing the tape. Fisk mentions how he's seen that Ben is writing on how Matt is protecting an ex-crime boss. Fisk tells Urich the real story, that the ex-boss was an ex-drug dealer who got the position by threatening to kill his rivals families. He gives Urich old papers that he "acquired" after getting some police records secretly declassified.

Ben goes to Matt and Foggy and shows them that the papers are authentic and that they'll be letting a monster walk. Matt says that the Kingpin is giving false information and that the ex-boss is on the level and has given them info to use against other rival gangs. We cut to the scene in the courtroom, where Matt gets the man off on a technicality.

The law firm is celebrating their victory, when Bullseye comes in and knocks Karen out, Foggy tries to attack Bullseye but is easily defeated. Bullseye comes up to the blind lawyer, and beats him, Matt allows this because he wants to get his attention away from the others. Just as it looks like Bullseye is going to kill him. Matt mentions that he called the cops as Bullseye arrived. The office is surrounded, but Bullseye makes a quick escape.

Matt is healing in the hospital as Ben comes in. Ben tells Matt that he knows that he's Daredevil. He tells the story of Matt's father and we see in a series of flashbacks how Ben pieced it together. Murdock admits it. Ben asks why he'd protect a monster like the ex-crime boss. Matt mentions that he can hear hearts, and they'll skip when they lie. Ben tells Matt that the guy had a pacemaker installed a decade ago.

Matt is worried and gets out of the hospital without Ben noticing. We see the ex-boss crippling one of the guys who went solo during the trial. Just then Daredevil comes in and is about to stop him. The ex-boss is about to shoot Daredevil (who is still healing from Bullseye's attack,) when Bullseye comes in and shoots him. Bullseye admits he should have just let the guy shoot Daredevil, but he wanted to kill the icon personally.

Daredevil is about to be shot, but he uses his billy-club to knock the light out and hit bullseye in the dark. Bullseye gets a lucky shot and hits the pipes next to DD, Daredevil lets out a yell, and that's all Bullseye needs to locate him. Bullseye throws him out the window and then jumps up to finish him off, but as he lands, he gets an awful head pain. He takes out the pills Kingpin gave him, but Matt knocks the bottle away.

Matt feels the bottle's label, and denies Bullseye a chance to take the pills. Bullseye panics and starts shooting, but he's in too much pain. Daredevil faces down the gun, and some bystanders catch it on a cell phone camera. The tape gets released to the public and the vigilante is known as the man without fear.

Bullseye is captured by the police, Ben is looking at the bottle and says that it's an experimental drug made by one of Fisk's companies. Ben says that it's a way to get tumours out of patients. Matt reads the medical reports, and it says that Bullseye had a rare lump in his brain which made him have homicidal tendencies. Matt says that he's going to see if he can get him cured.

Karen Page tells Matt that he needs to stop, and that she'll leave if he helps Bullseye. Foggy says that if Bullseye was insane and should be locked up an cured. Matt's narration comes back in, and he wonders what should be done. Cut to Matt in the church talking with the priest. The Priest says that the card was linked to Bullseye, and it would be career suicide to defend him.

We see Kingpin turning off a huge TV after watching what the Priest just told everyone, about Bullseye being linked to the attack in the beginning of the movie. He's about to leave his office, when Daredevil appears. Daredevil starts asking the Kingpin questions, like if he was involved with Bullseye. Matt then presumes that Bullseye was a middle build a new criminal empire. That Fisk's attack on the mod was really an attack on the competition. Then with Bullseye's death, Fisk would step in and unite what was left of the gangs to create an empire.

Of course, if Bullseye lives, there was always a chance he'd talk to get the cure for his condition. When Kingpin says it's ridiculous Matt shows the bottle Bullseye had. Matt says the bottle comes from Fisk industries. He then says that the bottle has MGH*, an illegal drug that's only New York supply came from a warehouse bust at the beginning of the month. Kingpin says it's bull, but DD hears his heart skip a beat.

We end the story with Kingpin's narration. He narrates the plot holes, saying how when he was little, the drug lords killed his father for not paying protection. He mentions how people are misguided, and Daredevil played right into his hands, took out the proper people and lead the way for the fall of Bullseye. As he's narrating, we see clips about what's going on with the rest of the cast. Matt is defending Bullseye and gets him out of a death sentence. Karen is leaving as Foggy says goodbye and returns to a Matt whose neck deep in work. We see Ben writing up a article about the Kingpin. Then we see Matt's alter-ego patrolling the street. Kingpin ends his narration with a vow of vengeance against DD, the man without fear.

*Mutant Growth Hormone, a drug that increases human reflexes to a superhuman level.

I know it's not perfect, but I think it's much better than what we got before. (I know that's not saying much.) But I want to know what you guys think; did I miss any opportunities? Was there an unneeded scene in there, or one that you really wanted to see? Did any of the characters act too different from their comic book counter-parts? Should I write a sequel to this plot? (It's probably going to be the Elektra saga.)
