If it's crap... We'll tell you

A look at Jenifer’s redband body: Spin-off the Blade: Ghostbusters 3 vid interview: District to the 9’s:Let me in DUDE:: Ryan’s new Lantern (it be green) Titbits & off topic

Hello from the Dresden Room, a few blocks from Mike’s apartment in the Los Feilz area of Los Angels. It’s

WEEK-ENDERS

Welcome to another edition of the only blog on the internet that’s best read when phissed on Bucky. I’ am your host, manager of the Dresden and verbal communicator of the W-E blog, Guy.

After last weeks slow start, I’m hoping to get out of the gate an...

OK!

Forgot to ask the question on last weeks, so no wonder it wasn’t a great W-E. How could it be when we are pent up? So are you ready? Put up your feet. Sit back and….

LET’S CRACK ONE AFFFFFFFF!!!!!

Better. Damn. I haven’t cracked on off in four weeks. I may have to start smoking after that crack-off

First bit of news is about this film.

And this redband trailer.

Is it just me, or does this look like the drizzling shits?

I’m not sure why? But I thought this film was going to be a dark kind of horror film. Oh I knew this was a black comedy, just not that HEAVY on the comedy side, ya know?
This has got that “scream” thing going now, only not funny. I might be champion Megan Fox to get her FHM Sexiest Award back next year but I won’t be pushing for her be standing on the Oscar podium next March. The problem here is that she’s pushing that whole “bad girl” character of Jenifer wayyyyy too hard. That and Megan herself isn’t the best of actors, a fault she herself owed up to so you’ve got to give her at least. But that still doesn’t change the fact that this film looks bloody terrible. As I said it has the Scream thing going on with all the modern day pop culture references. But here it looks like they just overloaded it to death with that stuff. Well, tis only one trailer: but for me personally. Jenifer’s body looks a mess. Now who’d thought you’d read that statement that’s related to Megan Fox?

Back in 2003 plans were high and hopeful for a few spin-off’s stemming from Blade 3 and the two characters who formed an alliance with Blade, Hannibal King and Abigail Whistler. But the film bombed and the hopes were dashed, but not shattered. I should point out that this proposed spin-off isn’t about Abigail Whistler. So sadly no Jessica Biel taking the lead here. Nor is about Mr King as Ryan Reynolds is going to be a pretty busy chappy with two other superhero characters, more on that later.

No, this about the half blood vampire and villain from the first Blade movie. Deacon Frost who was played by Stephen Dorff. The director of the first Blade film, Stephan Norrington said this week that Frost’s character will kick off a new trilogy of prequels. Dorff himself has confirmed this and he seems quite up for doing this film. With life being what it Stephen was in the UK this past week and I was here, so he couldn’t visit the Dresden in person but through that old magic of tin cup and string, we were able to have a quick talk and he said this at reasonable volume.

“a prequel to the Blade movies, Deacon’s story. It’s a new trilogy the director has created. It will [be] cool.”

Norrington himself confirmed what Dorrf said it similar to what Dorff said. Can’t help but wonder if Dorff will catch some heat for letting slip that bit of info. Regardless of that Norrington then throw some bromance Dorff’s way by thanking him for coming up with the idea for the project to quote Norrington,
I wonder what there Buddy Poke would be?

Dorff checks out the Buddy Poke.

Lot’s of folk think this is a bad, bad idea. The main reason being that Blade 1 was the ONLY good one in the series, making this prequel trilogy pointless. I do agree that Blade 1 is the best of three. Two was a car crash of a film. The third whilst not great was saved from total critic hell by Ryan Reynolds and a cool villain. I’d like to see what this new trilogy can do, with or without Snipes in any of them.

Earlier this week, a video came of Harold Ramis getting interviewed about Ghostbusters 3. It looks like this as he also sounds like that….

Well, I’ve commented on this a few times. It is a good interview and I’m still hoping that the film will be a good sequel and add to the series rather than take away from it. Also I do realise that that there might be a sense of hypocrisy here given my firm stance on overly long waited sequels or reboots as some folk see GB 3. And I’ll say that maybe I’ am. But consider this. The main theme of the story here is the “new generation” and “passing of the torch” This could work really well for today’s comedic actors. Seth Rogan’s name gets mentioned, as does Ben Stiller. I might also point to Superbad cast members Jonah Hill. Michael Cera and Bill Haden as possible new team members. As we know the original cast have singed up for the third film. This then leads the film to get knocked as it might seem like “Oldbusters” or some such shit like that. I’ll go on record and say that I think the original cast won’t play as a big part as one might thing. What would be the point? They’ve done it for two full films. The whole point about GB 3 is that it’s about bringing in new team i.e. new actors/actress to maybe just bring in what is still a very popular franchise into today’s world and maybe get one or two more sequels some day. Now GB is a classic, and I get why folks have their doubts. And if GB3 did fail I’d think it should just end there, casue I do think some of the reason to doing a third film is to see if more might be done soon. But of the third one was crap or flopped. Pull the plug. The last thing we need is more sequels spoiling the classic image that is the first Ghostbusters film.

Here’s a new poster and trailer for District 9

In this Guy’s humble opinion, I think we have a winner here. When I first heard about this back in May, all I had were the words of a Black Wonder and cool but world domination planning Robot. That was good enough for me, so I went and tracked the first trailer down, and I have since been keeping taps on it ever since. This trailer looks so fucking cool, and for me will make this one of the top films of 2009 when I look back on the year. I like how that even though it will have tons of action in it, it still maintains that documentary feel to it. I’m really looking forward to it dear reader.
District 9 opens in the US on August 9th (bastards) And September 4th in the UK (Now U know why)

SEE IT:

Last week I talked about the upcoming US version of Let the Right One In.

This week I bring news of the first casting choice for the “Let me In”

Kodi Smit-McPhee will play the young boy role, the role played by Kare Hedebrant in the original. Well as per last week Matt Reeves is standing by his word and not making the two leads older to play on the current Twilight buzz. This will also mean that he intends to keep the story of the original in tact. But as I said if the suits even think they can get another Twilightesque franchise going here. Those claws will dig in much deeper.

To round off the main news features, we are at W-E want to wish Ryan Reynolds congrats for landing the role of The Green Lantern.

The film is being directed by Martin Campbell of Casino Royale fame. It has had a long and winding search for the right actor to play GL. And Ryan is. As I said earlier, he was the best of only two things in Blade 3. He was certainly the best character. And I haven’t seen it, but as best as I can tell y’all liked him in X-Men Origins as Dead Pool before he was visited by Mr Shhhhh. And he just seems to be a really cool guy who brings his best to every role he can, even in shit films like Van Wilder. So I think this a very good casting choice. Lets not forget that Ryan also has to play Hal Jordan as well as Green Lantern, and I think he will be good in both. Congrats Ryan ma man, and here is out first ever celeb W-E toast. Cheers.

Tidbits & off topic

Collecting the swag

Ok, so this bit of news will seem a tad self indulgent on my part. With me being a horror fan and one time Saw fan, but I think this looks interesting. A horror film called The Collector

Yes, it is from Marcus Dunstan. Writer of Feast and Saw films IV V VI. But I think the premise looks kind of cool, so let’s give this first time director a chance here. Who knows, it might have the “Layer cake” effect.

2nd Hangover

It was announced that Tod Phillips will do a sequel to his big summer hit the Hangover. With the film just earning $210 million a money mark that has surpassed Wedding Crashers in becoming the second highest Rated-R movie of all time. This record currently held by Beverly Hills Cop which sits at $234. But Warner Bros reckon will end up beating that by closing up on $240. This will make the film the third highest earner behind Passion of the Christ and Matrix Reloaded and All this means a sequel will be indeed be made, but only after Tod makes Due Date.

Ok, well that’s another W-E just about done. The lights are fading and the music is getting slower. As always lets round off with Toasts.

BDiddy: I should check my past W-E’s and seeing if some kind of prize is on offer for being a reader as long as you have been. A gold watch? Free Pineapple Upside down cake? Or just the old fashioned arm around shoulder and a free shoogle? YESSSSS! That's a good Dresden prize. Thanks for the support both on W-E and life itself. And of course…
T.F.Y.T.H.T.F.M.V.S

Ironman: SHOCK HORROR. Guy is toasting one of the biggest trolls on Spill? Yes, I bloody well am. True he can be shall we say blunt. But we’ve never had a cross word and he’s cool with me. All that and the fact he is down with a British Invasion.

Mirachick: Glad to hear you’re representing us Scots. With your “Decking the Baw.”
If anyone tires to steal the Bucky? Gee the chav a Glasgow Kiss. Lol.

Ok, well that will do it for now. As always. Who. Where and How. BE THE BIG WINNA!

To close us out. Here’s Harold Ramis talking about tying knots.

Hmm the second Jennifer trailer thing looks better. It's amazing how just a simple switch in editing can effect one's opinion about a movie. And I agree on District 9. Looks like it's going to be one hell of a movie. Can't wait.
