Matt Damon & Josh Brolin have “True Grit” J.J Abrahams isn’t on the 4th Mission? MIB3 Has Coen writer: Hugh Jacks in the Oscars: Posted: Trailers, titbits & off topic

Live from the Dresden, just a few blocks from Mike’s apartment in the Los Feliz area of LA-LA-LA HEY- Los Angles Ca. It is the

WEEKENDERS

And hello there stranger. How have you been keeping? Miss me? Lol. Ok, let’s just get this out of the way right now, that being the reason the blog went AWOL the last two weeks. Well it’s certainly none of the stupid rumours I have been hearing. I didn’t sell the W-E Blog to Hollywood.com. I didn’t lose W-E in a card game, upon a River Clyde boat and I did not lose it to Sav after losing a rap battle….. he’d have to beat me in the first place man. And for the love O’ GOD. I didn’t go to the Amsterdam Party and par take in space cake go nuts from it, strip off and proclaim myself the nudist man on the moon. OKAAAAYY? I never even went man. Christ I’ve been doing my podcasts like clock work man would I be doing so if that were the case? And I don’t sound anymore out of it on these than usual …. Gezzzz. Net rumours man. Lol.

No, the truth is far less exciting. Uh, I’ll just say that I might have been coming down with something. Don’t worry, it’s not swine flu or anything like that. It was more head stuff than anything else. But, I saw my doc. He upped my meds and now U know what? Everything is groovy. Everything is FINNNNEEE! =D

So let us move it a brisk pace, keep up if you can, cause as Carlyle informed us all on ACOCO last week. The Oscar build has started and in one story I will have some presenter stuff to talk about.

Oh and how are you? Yeah… I know *hangs head* I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.. I can go stand in the corner after I get done here? Guy quiet time maybe? Send me to my room? Maybe spank me?

Or not. Your call. =>

Ok, it’s been two weeks since I have done this. I don’t do this on the podcast (yet) so I advice the entire Spill community take cover… WHY? You ask?

LETS CRACK ONE OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!! *wipes brow* WOW. I started a drinking this new drink called. W.A.N.K Tonic. That bloody cracking.. lol.. Man., now I have W.A.N.K juice all over me.

Ok, so where shall we start? Um… I’ll say the beginning. This isn’t Fight Club after all.

First it was announced that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks along with Jeff Bridges to start in the Coen Bros True Grit remake. If all three men get the job. Bridges would play the lead role of one Marshall Rooster Cogburn (played by John Wayne in 69 film) Matt Damon would play lawman La Beouf (played by Bruce Campbell in 69 film) And Brolin would play the killer of the 14 year old girl’s dad. That part is still unknown but I’d give Dakota Fanning a shout out on that one.

"This will be my film now bitches"

Now what’s intesrting is that the Coen’s version would be more faithful to the book written by one Charles Portis which told the story entirely from the 14 yr old girl’s POV. The 1969 film did not. So that being the case They need a good teen actress to play the part.

This is what the bros said. Spoken like true Coens it was…

“Yes. Jeff, Matt and Josh, that’s true – something that you read in the trades that actually turns out to be true!”

“It’s partly a question of point-of-view. The book is entirely in the voice of the 14-year-old girl. That sort of tips the feeling of it over a certain way. I think [the book is] much funnier than the movie was so I think, unfortunately, they lost a lot of humour in both the situations and in her voice.”

“Another way in which it’s a little bit different from the movie – and maybe this is just because of the time the movie was made – is that it’s a lot tougher and more violent than the movie reflects. Which is part of what’s interesting about it.”

“I [Joel] don’t actually remember the movie too well, but I do remember it as being much more of a standard western, and the book is just an oddity. It’s a very odd book.”

It’ll be interesting to see who they cast for this pivotal part.

J.J Abrahams man. A man who has made into the H-wood big time. And who else knows this? Tom Cruise does. And he asked J.J to come back and work with him on the fourth film. The first thing J.J did was hire screen writers Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec. The two wrote on J.J’s Alias TV show so they go back with him. But the question still remains if Abrahams will actually direct or not. Up until all he would say that Josh and Andre were writing the script. But this week he let W-E in and gave us a definitive answer. As we sat by the Dresden pool, me trying to get J.J to have some of my W.A.N.K Tonic, he refusing and sticking to the pins. Abrahams said this…

“I’m producing with Tom… My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie.”

So there ya go. It is official he will not be directing. ‘So how about the story?’ I thought this and then via my mouth I asked him, and he said this…

“I don’t want to give anything away yet, but I will say that it’s a story that will feel consistent with the world that has been created. It’s not a reboot kind of thing.”

Man of few words eh?

So there U have it. Um… MI3 for me only had one highlight. Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He worked his ass off and was great as always. The rest I wasn’t too impressed with, so I’m not sure what to make of this. I would probably suspect this would be TC’s last MI film. Age will be too much of a factor for their to be a fifth, or at one with featuring Tom. So I don’t know we shall see what direction the fourth mission goes in.

Speaking of writers’ writer for Men in Black 3 has been found. Columbia Pictures are now full steam ahead with this project man. And the writers name his Coen…

Etan Coen that is.

His credits are Tropic Thunder 2 and Madagascar 2. TV wise he also penned American Dad. Beavis & Butthead. King of the Hill. No word on Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and if they will return or not. But I’d imagine CP would come across with the doe-ray-mee to get on board and shit.

Um…. The 2nd MIB blew. I hated it. Sorry but it was a needless sequel pure and simple. This third film? Ugghh… But we shall see. Etan seems to have good enough record and at the end day the film being good lies with what’s in his head. But… I just always see MIBS as one off. That HUGE summer film for the summer of 1997 ya know? MIB 2 and now this is a mere afterthought man.

Hugh Jackman will not be hosting the Oscars next year it was revealed last week. He said that he would like to host the show a few years down the line but not do two in a row. So that leaves the job vacant…pretty vacant even. The name, well most popular name being put around by way of suggestion has been Neil Patrick Harris.

"Hmmm? Is that Oscar I can see into the Distance?"

His hosting duties at the Emmys this past September went down a storm with the viewers and those in attendance. Now I haven’t seen this Emmys but my own co-host BDiddy has told me he did a great job with being an entreating and engaging host, and really kept show going. High praise from my very own HB ladies and gents. I do think we need new blood. I tend to lose any pre interest if it’s someone who’s done it like five. two three fuckin times as good as they are or their hosting was in the past. I’d like to see an odd year with new blood and old school hosts. Hugh, well he did a good job for the most part. U can’t accuse him of being boring that’s for damn sure. Maybe one too many songs from the old Wolf man though. And since he had Origins coming out like a month or so later, in the back of my mind I couldn’t help but feel he was harming the Wolverine character and maybe even the overall marketing of that film with that extra dance number. Just my opinion as humble and awesome as it is.

I defo would like to see NPH do it. He is most certainly a perfect example of that new blood I spoke of. And has good cross over appeal So I’ll say NPH for Oscars 2010. Who the F-BOMB is with me?

Ok, let us take a look at the new posters for this week. Shall we?

Some interesting ones. Some meh ones and some cliché as crap ones. Lol I loved the Tron2 poster. Clearly citing the X-Box 360. Lets just hope that after June 7th of next year we don’t have the red ring of death syndrome.

Ok lastly we will look at the trailers for this week…

The Cup of Tears film trailer. Dir. Gary Shore from Gary Shore on Vimeo.

Shutter Island - Exclusive Trailer Hmmm. Indeed. Cup of Tears looks damned impressive. As does Avatar. Speaking of which. Here is a bonus behind the scenes video for ya.

Ok, that will do it for now. Don’t forget to listen to the podcast on Thus night. And again I just wanna toast all the 128 members who have all joined up and hopefully have their W-E badges pinned to their chests each and every time they listen to me and B.

And of course thank U to BDiddy for the being the greatest and many a time, patient co-host.. lol. Love ya for it. =D

And as for U dear reader. U BE MONEY!!!

Now…. About this spanking????? =)

OK, I looked up "Cup of Tears" and the director. I am very interested in this young man. A new face with a sense of vision. And the Vimeo site is very interesting. Thanks for the lead. I want to know more about Cup of Tears but apparently it is not picked up by any one (not sure it is even finished). We shall see what we shall see

Mr. Guy! WTF is the first flick? Flying giant Squids? and "CRACKS" (Hmm anything like "Sex and the City"?). I can't wait for AVATAR and HOLMES. However I have been a "Holmes" fan going back to being a Kid. have read just about everything by Sir Arthur over the years so if they stray to far I will probably be pissed. I have not heard of "Cup of Tears" . Thanks for the heads up on that one. When is it due out? I was pissed they moved "Shutter Island" back. That is never a good sign. "Blackout" and "Psychosis" I have not heard about either. But please, no more torture porn. I would suggest 'Wolfman" While I am wary about remakes that is a story worth retelling if for no other reason than the Werewolf has been spoofed so badlly and generally beat to death, we have forgotten just what a forlorn and tortured Talbot person he was. as for TRON, we shall see but 3D IMAX should be cool if (a big if) the story and acting match what will be cool visuals. I just rewatched the original with my 20 year old who had never seen it. He was bored. And I did not realize how bad the acting was.
Have fun with your POD cast. Always a pleasure.

That Cup of Tears trailer was f*cking incredible. Haven't seen better visuals in a trailer since 300. Looked like it would be an awesome flick until all that sci-fi crap suddenly appeared. I hope Gary Shore has a good way of explaining that in the story.
Christian Lynch Comment by Christian Lynch on November 2, 2009 at 1:53pm
I think Neil Patrick Harris is a great choice for a host of anything simply because he is very charismatic but also willing to poke fun at himself without deliberately doing something embarassing, (cough cough will ferrell cough cough). He would be good as the flash simply due to his build and fast talking demenor. Little doogie howser is all grown up *single tear*

Wow that Blackout poster looks atrocious. As does the Psychosis. Cracks looks interesting, though that could just be because of Eva Green's face on the poster... Neil Patrick Harris is cool. I think he'd be great to play the Flash as well, whenever that film comes along.

A new Heroes was on tonight and we had a great action packed episode. What I thought was a good episode worthy of the last one of the year. We even got a Peter-Sylar fight, something every fan has been clam-mering for since the end of season one. ...
