Alright the long awaited screen adaptation of the beloved novel Watchmen has finally hit the big screen (or is about to). None the less I was so ecstatic when I was able to get into a press screening of the film.
Now before I jump into the movie review let me just say they were marketing the hell out of this movie last night they were giving out posters, shirts, buttons, stickers, tattoos, and the greatest of all Watchmen condoms now I can imagine your pretty confused but these things were a riot they were Dr. Manhattan blue and on the inside it said “Were societies only protection”. Personally I thought it was funny as hell but yea I just wanted to let the people who appreciate know.
Don’t believe me check it out,
Review time! Of coarse I am a fan of the novel I have read it at least three or four times, and let me start by saying that the fans will not be disappointed I loved every second of this film all two hours and forty-two minutes of it. The movie opens up with the Comedian in his apartment and well for those of you who have read the book you know what happens from there on out, for those of you who have not read the novel (in which I am very disappointed) we see as a mysterious person breaks in the apartment only to beat the hell out of the comedian and throws him through his window thus killing him. One thing about the fight scenes is that they bring back the old WOPOOSH when ever someone throws a punch and it works in this movie.
Another thing you might be worried about is that this movie is directed by Zack Snyder who was the visionary director behind “300” which had an excessive amount of slow motion. No need to worry there is slow motion in this movie but not the entire thing and when it is it’s done tastefully not the whole take four minutes to reload a gun Max Payne deal.
The fans of the novel will know how the rest of the story carries out. For the review overall this movie is fantastic it’s almost three hours and there is an extended cut out there (that I can not wait to see) but I couldn’t really tell what was missing the transitions where done flawlessly in the movie. The casting was another thing I loved about this movie like many of you my favorite character in the graphic novel is Rorschach but in this movie for some reason Nite Owl was such a cool character in this movie.
To wrap this thing up yes this was an amazing movie there is nothing to worry about, one thing I forgot to mention was that I loved how they used different songs form past decades in this movie just loved it! A word to the wise for those of you parents out there DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDEREN TO THIS MOVIE! This is not your average Spiderman movie this is a rated R movie and it is very serious it is violent as hell, some parts are actually a lot more graphic than the book it’s self which is a nice change but there also besides the violence is sexual stuff as well and not to mention blue genitals.
To close this review I think this movie was the first good movie of 2009 DC has just been knocking the ball out of the park ever since “The Dark Knight” and boy is this another hit I pray to god this movie does well it is amazing just seeing what was called the un-filmable movie finally make it to the big screen is enough but the acting, effects, I did not hate one thing in this movie and I highly recommend it to fans of the novel and people who have just heard about it go out and see this movie!
