i just got back from seeing the movie and as a whole i had pretty much the same problems with the movie as the spill crew but i just felt i was less effected by them. the music choices that were made and in some ways i was cool with it because i was held up at gun point and the song playing in the background was "always look on the bright side of life" so to me some of the music choices took me back in the same sort of way
i didnt have a problem with the blue penis or a im going to dub it "Blue Steel" i didnt really shock me. To be honest it does seem like zack snyder was trying to stuff it down the throat "lol dirty pun" but after awhile it just sort of blends into the background and i didnt really distract me.
the make up was shit house and thank god it didnt feature much in the movie cause it was just as bad as the spill crew put it "very 80's level make up when it comes to the quality" for me this was the low-light of the film for all the money put into the film you couldnt find someone that looked like nixon. when i first saw the guy playing him i was saying na that cant be right thats someone mocking nixon or something then there was no cut away and i just said you gonna be fucking kidding thats the worst fucking make up in a movie i have seen that was ment to be taken seriously. one of the reasons it looked so bad is cause the fake chin and nose didnt match the rest of the guys face it was like 3 shades lighter. S.S 1 was bad cause it looked for the same reasons cause it was clear as day where the fause parts were placed because you could see where the make up stopped and her real face began and that just shouldnt happen in a movie with a budget this big and it was honesty distracting because the whole time i was watching them speak was like talking to a friend while they have something in there teeth or on there face.
the characters...im with spill on this they kind of brush over Rorshack's character which i found odd seeing the actor playing him did the best job. but other then that zack did a good job of giving you good detail into all the main characters so i will give him a pat on the back cause im pretty sure there will be more rorshack in the uncut dvd
the acting...well i actually dug everyone except nixon. look im not saying the women playing S.S. 2 does anything amazing, but i would never say she did a bad job. for me i wasnt a big fan of nite owl in the book but in the movie the guy playing him made me like him and i felt that seeing him on the big screen i like the character more. well dr manhattan & his blue steel were what i expected billy is a pretty good actor and i did feel his disconnection from the world but at the same time i felt his guilt when he finds out he gave his ex cancer. as for Rorshack while i do think he was a stand out and the voice was dead on the whole movie i would say oscar because of the fact i felt he wasnt explained it the same depth as he was in the book while you find out his mom is a whore and that he gets shit for it the parts as a kid about 30 seconds in total then as for when he is explaining how he turned from kovaks 2 rorschach it seemed like it got rushed. there was no explainion of the mask he didnt go see the women that lived in the building that talked shit about him didnt really show you him letting any criminals go it was just a statement "that get wasnt rorschach yet just playing pretend" and they left out the story about the women that got killed as people looked on and did nothing and there is no mention of the rapist with the note on the body which for me while small all added to his character.
story. now as i said before the movie has had to leave stuff out but overall its very watchmen and as a story i was digging it. not to the level of the book but still really high and while i liked the different ending and i actually thought it worked better the things you lost in its place sort of sucked. remember without the squid there was no need the boat and there for the black freighter artist wasnt in the movie or any of that plot and to me thats sort of the whole reason why moore but the black freighter in the book so now even when they release the dvd with it cut into the movie it wont have any context to this movie. my other problem was the post end the book your left to make up your own mind about how long the peace will last and in alot of ways it seemed like nothing really changed which sort of made what veidt's plan seem sort like while it had to be done left you thinking well its all going to come undone soon people forget. but in the movie it seems like veidt's plan did more then that and in sort of making that clear statment it killed off the debate of things ever breaking down on there own with one exception "i cant say what it is but if u read the book u know"
having seen it I have to say I really liked it. I didn´t know the comic so I didn´expect that much but in the end I walked out and thought what a great movie...ok there were a few scenes where I thought wtf? why did they do that but all in all I would recommend this movie to my friends. so full price for me!
People need to try and remember things do get changed and not always making things worse, take The Dark Knight. LEGEND ICON The Joker.....Changed in a great number of ways but was still amazing. Batmans world changed overall pretty cool but it also has it flaws as does Watchmen but my flaws with it were also in the comic.
Just comes down to taste really and i think they NEWER fans of the comic will like it more since they have not awaited it aslong as the older hardcore fans but thats just how i see things
so...it's a movie that if you HAVENT read the book you'll enjoy? I've been holding out on the graphic novel to avoid dissapointment cause it's become a cliche to get a comic/book/G-novel to movie adaption wrong.
nice review, and I'm glad this just reaffirms my motivation to go in and judge as a movie and not an adaptation. It was my plan before and it makes me feel better knowing I'll probably enjoy it more now because of it.
I hope so very much you guys are blowing the negatives out of proportion ( I have not seen movie yet ). But you rarely do and 19/20 times you guys are dead on with your points, which makes me a little sad to hear this isnt as great as it deserves to be.
As for most say not as good as the comic was it ever going to be?
When you read its in your head, You feel it because you are reading it and read it in a way that brings you into the book. This is a film which you just go on the ride with as for hating it come on guys its like Star wars prequels everyone knew it would be a let down because everyone has their own take on the story.
Do agree the casting could have been better but still I enjoyed it, hell it was what it was.
Ever since the world-famous documentary "Bruce Almighty" came out in 2003, millions have recognized that Morgan Freeman is the greatest thing to ever happen. Everything he does is golden. The slimmest association of him with a movie guarantees it ...
Once again the player is jerking me around, so im Halfway from snapping, this week I got Member Jordan Cobb as a guest and we went on for great lengths (15 more minutes than usual)
enjoy
