Normally I agree with Spill crew, but this time I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree. I was thoroughly entertained by this movie with no problem as how it compares to the comic book *and I read the comic book before I saw this*. I thought most everyone did good job acting their parts while Jeffery Dean Morgan and Jackie Earl Haley ante'd up and made this movie that much better. As far as ending goes, lot of people I talked to had no problem with it and neither do I. This had more profound impact than comic book ending. If I was reviewing with spill crew, I would've given this movie Full Price *by all means, movie isn't prefect but it did its job*
I really hope people see the movie before listening to the Spill Crew's review. I thought it was a lot more harsh and critical than the movie deserved, and I'm sorry to say that it might have been too affected by their sentimental attachment to the source material.
Personally, I didn't find myself really missing anything from the book that much. And I do think the movie's ending maked more sense than the book's. I have to also add that I loved the graphic novel and recommend it to everyone I know.
Sadly, the audience for this movie is very limited. Those who have adored the novel for 20 years will inevitably be disappointed (no matter how the movie turned out), and those who have never heard of it will probably be confused and/or bored. But having read the book probably makes the movie more clear and more enjoyable, but that might create unusually high expectations that will lead to the aformentioned disappointment.
I can't wait for the hype to die down so that we could all start judging the movie on its own merit.
Good, but not great. It's not a great adaptation of Watchmen, which will remain impossible, but still pretty to look at even though it did bore me at times. I just didn't enjoy the way the guy who played Veidt delivered most of his lines, but Rorschach- in and out of the mask- kept most of this movie entertaining. However, I had hoped he would burn the rapist instead of just stabbing him over and over and over again.
That being said, I think I would see it a few more times just for that opening credits sequence alone- that's where Snyder brought life to the comic. That and "The Times Are A-Changin," along with "Only a Pawn in Their Game" are two Bob Dylan songs I enjoy. Only thing I don't like is how other sites- mainly IGN- are already comparing Watchmen with The Dark Knight- it seems like a way to continue crowbarring Dark Knight into everything comic book related and it's ridiculous.
Jackie Earle Haley was great, can I just add that I genuinely liked The Dark Knight, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful to it because it is a great movie, I just found some of it was a bit drawn out.
And I was Thrilled that Heath Ledger got a Posthumous Oscar.
Cool. I'm glad we found common ground there. Well, I'm just glad I didn't just completely hate the movie like some of my friends did. It's disappointing that it wasn't better, but I kind of expected it to be not as good. I doubt we will get another The Dark Knight anytime soon, so I will just be pleased if they make decent superhero movies since any progression to legitimizing the genre is good progression. And perhaps that may be this movie's only real lasting impact, since it kind of shows that superhero movies can contain more depth than people give them credit for.
Although, did you notice how much this movie wanted to be Blade Runner? I swear, there were moments that just felt so much like it that I expected a Replicant to walk into the scene. Maybe Synder should stop doing graphic novel adaptations and try to find something that fits his style more (though at this point I'd say he'd be a better photographer than a director).
I agreed with these Pros:
- Some shots in here are absolutely breathtaking in their artistic depth
- Jackie Earle Haley, Billy Crudup were all great
- Excellent interpretation of Dr. Manhattan's and Rorschach's backstories
- Great attention to period detail (tape players, architecture, etc.)
- Very unique title sequence
- Nite Owl's dream
- The first sex scene was entertaining
Hm....I guess you're right Leon. I guess I meant that I don't agree with the rental rating as much because some of the stuff really does look great in a theater format and I just enjoyed it more than I disliked it. I meant no offense with my statement though. And I do agree that this is nowhere near as great as the comic. In fact, I forgot to mention that one more pro is that at least the movie will get people to read the comic and appreciate it more.
What pros would you particularly agree with me on?
We are all critics lol there were certain parts in the dar knight which were just plain long and drawn out. Did I imply anywhere that The Dark Knight sucked? No.
Hi guys. We are two ep's away from being the big 10 and we go from strength to strength.
In episode 8 B and I talk TV. The chance of Dustin Hoffman "Focking" from that film. Judge Apatow wanting 2 sequeals. And with films being made about the D...
