Watch This Awesome Short: 'Grand Theft Auto: Rise'

The trend of turning videogames into movies seems to be experiencing a resurgence of late with the 'Assassin's Creed,' 'Splinter Cell,' and 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution' films all very much in the works. Though there are no official plans to adapt the 'Grand Theft Auto' series into a movie, filmmaker Gevorg Karensky has put together this action-packed short film that affords us a glimpse of what a 'Grand Theft Auto' movie might look like. I have to say, I was a bit lost. The last 'Grand Theft Auto' game I played was 'San Andreas,' and this film, 'Grand Theft Auto: Rise' appears to be based more on 'GTA IV;' with the online mutli-player angle and the lead character called Niko Bellic. That said, I still found this to be a pretty exciting short and I dug the touches with the lower left compass. Take a look at the short below and let us know what you think.

Okay, for a "promotional" tool to help try to drum up interest in a GTA movie it might work. But honestly, even then it would still be totally "re-worked" before given the green light to start filming. They would ditch a lot of the "touches" that appeared (map, gun info, etc etc etc), they would "smooth" out the editing and slow-mo for "generic walking" scenes. Works in the game, but general audiences would detest that choice for simple actions like walking.....

Again, good aide to "promote" yourself for making a GTA-based movie. Only when you get the movie go-ahead, they would change so much that it wouldn't look like your promotional tool at all.

Looks more like Watch Dogs.

If you want to put a 'Grand Theft Auto' title on it, I guess it's going to spark interest to watch.  However, It's really nothing I would recommend for somebody to watch.

Meh, Nothing to do with GTA at all besides two guns and some cars, Which isn't the core of the stories at all. Although most assassinations in the games don't have a huge emotional weight, it feels like perfection when they do, and this one felt like the former. Could have had something more outlandish than a RV party, Like sneaking into a parody of Ice Cubes mansion to steal his rhyme book and bankrupt him from San Andreas. But probably the best GTA short to date, so that's something. Not bad, just not much GTA. Felt more like a parody, like a lazy person was playing the game lol, he walked slow as fuck and calm as hell to his bike after murdering someone in a car chase. Even in GTA you run away. Last shot was pretty sweet.
