Video Game inspired action figures ive made over the years

I did all of these figures right after the release of Halo 3. The master chief and arbiter stand at 2 inches tall, with the warthog being slightly deformed/ exaggerated to fit the characters. The warthog has working shocks, spinning tires, and a turning gun on the back. The master chief comes with his assault rifle and the arbiter with an energy sword and a spiker attached to his side.

So this is the pelican. This thing "this monstrosity" started out as an after thought after I had already made the warthog with the chief and arbiter. The warthog had looked so good that I wanted to keep going making more things. So I decided on making the Pelican, specifically a super deformed version that was nearly 70% smaller then what it should have been if it was to scale with the warthog. This thing too nearly a month to make. It has the ability to pick up and drop the warthog, the cockpit opens, and the landing gear actually works. The Bombay doors open on the back also. Originally I was going to make the halo 3 Sargent Apone rip off character to go with this along with the guilty spark and a removable turret for the back area, but I got way to bored of this (at this point I had been working on this entire halo project for nearly 6 weeks). Also originally the side and back wings could move to stimulate harrier style take offs, but I sealed them over. All the halo figures currently reside in my classroom ontop of my file cabinet for greasy high school students to play with...

Here are my Chrono trigger figures, I made these as a final project for an independent study sculpture class in college about 4-5 years ago. Originally I wanted to make the whole cast of characters but I again lost interest (unless I'm getting paid for something I tend to lose interest). Frog and Chrono are very strait forward 10 point figures. They both use a variation on the hoop style articulation that I used on the Hawkeye figure from my last blog post. The Robo figure was in a class of his own. Normally when I make an action figure the basic under skeleton is the same. Robo has an entirely unique underframe for his movement that isn't lie anything else I had ever done. Robo is a 9 point figure with a spinning waist and head. He also has a grappling hook fist that can be reeled back in via a crank concealed on the right side of his left arm. The designs for these figures were based off of the conceptual drawings that Akira Toriyama did for the video game. So proportion was the main focus from making these figures. I wanted Robo to be the correct size in relation to frog and Chrono.

Before I say anything, sorry about the quality of these 5 pictures. I dredged these up from my old picture folders. I don't use Epoch for any resume or art slides so I've never taken more professional slides of it. Epoch is the time traveling ship from Chrono Trigger, my favorite RPG flying machine. As you can see it "Snugly" fits the three characters I made into it. There are two separate ways to get the characters in and out of Epoch, the first way is via the bubble dome at the top which opens normally. The second (and cooler) way is via the elevator opening at the bottom. The problem with this design was the size of Robo in relation to the opening. I didn't really think about the problems that would arise because of Robo's size. The elevator opening was first seen in one the Anime cut scenes in the PS1 final fantasy chronicles chrono trigger. The same thing goes for the concealable rockets on the back which also made there first appearance in the PS1 game. This is also an instance where the final product with Epoch and the characters was too large to display anywhere so it just sits in a box in my attic.

I made this tiny figure recently. He's only a 5 point 2 inch tall figure. I was originally yet again going to make more of them (the entire delta squad) but I got bored. I also cheated for most of this figure. Any interior line detail I drew on with a marker instead of glued on using thin black strips (and I consider that "half assing it" or "cheating"). Whenever I draw on lines they don't have a texture, and the uniformity of the overall figure is compromised. Anytime I do draw on lines is usually because I just want the figure finished because I know I'm about to lose interest, which inevitably did happen with this one. All the guns attach to him just like in the game. I made the shotgun, lancer, and boltok pistol.

A couple of these shots are poor quality. I made this link totally for resume purposes. It's the only thing I physically bring with me to an interview. It's alot of fun to play with. This figure has 20 points of articulation on the body (some areas are counted twice, like the shoulders and elbows which have two directions of movement). I decided to make the twilight princess link, which was the game I was playing at the time I made this. Over the years I have made link a handful of times. I made one from link to the past, one from ocarina (with mountable epona), and one from majora's mask. This was the first link where I integrated the sword and shield logically into the figure. Meaning the way the figure holds the shield and sword is concealed by the aesthetic of the back. The shield is held on by a sleeping bag and the sword hilt is angled on top of a water bottle. They both aren't just abruptly attached to his back like a magnet. This was also the first time I truly perfected the finger movement when holding objects. Using a toothpick hinge I made the fingers move realistically around the shield, sword, and claw shot. The claw shot was the third time I made something retractable via crank (earth worm jim/snot, robo, and link). Link is also capable of holding the sword with two hands, due to the duel movement on the elbows. The figure stands at 6 inches tall, and he's very sturdy for something made out of paper.

This is my majoras mask link, notice the lack of a face. He's an 11 point 4 inch tall figure.

I'll end on this one, here is the Ocarina Link with the mountable epona. Now keep in mind I made this years prior to the game even being released, totally working on concept images and early game pics from nintendo power. So I would have to say I made this in late 1995 or mid 1996 (so I would have been 12 or 13 years old). I can't even look at this thing nor talk about it...ugk I'm out...
