Verbinski's Next Will Be 'Walter Mitty' Remake

Source: 20th Century Fox

Gore Verbinski, best known for his blockbuster Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy, will next helm a remake of Fox's classic The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty.

With a script by Steve Conrad, who wrote Verbinski's The Weather Man, the story will follow Walter Mitty, a wimpy comic book writer who dreams of being a hero and who suddenly finds himself caught up in an adventure trying to find the Dutch crown jewels that had been missing since World War II.

There is no word yet on who will take the lead role of Walter, but given Verbinski's track record with the eclectic Johnny Depp, he could be a contender.

Verbinski will first complete Paramount Pictures Rango before moving forward with any other production.

Wasn't Jim Carrey going to be in this?

I preferred it when Walter Mitty met Franz Kafka, and it was called Brazil.

This is one of my all time favorite films so how do I put this... NO! This movie can stand alone thank you very much. And I'm sorry Johnny Depp is no Danny Kaye.

I've read the story in class, but haven't seen the older film version. I think Verbinski is a decent choice, as he's combined the extravagant and the mundane before in something like Mouse Hunt. However, I'm starting to think about purchasing a ticket for the "I'm Sick of Johnny Depp" train. Seriously, spend some time with your kids dude!

Basically it's the story of a quiet, henpecked man who stumbles through life. Except inside his own head. Walter Mitty has a massive imagination. He routine escapes from his by the numbers existance by casting himself as the hero of one fantasy after the next, all with only one thing in common, a simple sound effect, topoketa-topketa-topekta.

It could be anything from the rumblings of an engine in a champion driver's race car, or the sounds of a machine being used by a top surgeon, who's hands an important patient's life depends on. Walter Mitty is categorized by mundane real life being surrounded by escapist fantasy of the highest order.

As much as I hate Hollywood remaking everything, this is how a remake should go, IMO: remake something that the movie going public today (minus the cinema buffs) can see anew and, if they wish, revisit to judge for themselves. Personally, I never even heard of this until now, so I don't mind the remake for this.
