Universal Taking Over 'Kick-Ass' Franchise?

Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s graphic novel 'Kick-Ass' turned out to be a hilarious and thoroughly entertaining R-rated superhero story. The cliffhanger at the end of the film, coupled with subsequent movie news blurbs, seemed to indicate that we'd be getting a sequel. But would Vaughn be returning to direct part two? Up until recently, it looked like he was trying to balance 'Kick-Ass 2' with the followup to his 'X-Men: First Class' so that he could do both, but that appears to no longer be the case. 'Kick-Ass' was a Lionsgate production, but apparently became a sort of free agent after that with Vaughn controlling. Vaughn is now looking to hand over the reigns to director Jeff Wadlow ('Cry_Wolf') who also penned the script for the sequel. Universal is in talks to produce the film, which they intend to start shooting in August. Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are all in discussion to reprise their roles. No official deals have been made as of this posting.

As much as I loved 'Kick-Ass,' I'm not sure how excited I am for a sequel. For one thing, I thought the first film was a nicely compact story and don't really feel there's more to mine from it cinematically. Also, without spoiling anything, my favorite character from the first film is assuredly not going to be appearing in the sequel, so again, I'm not clamoring for a second installment. And when you add to all of that the fact that Matthew Vaughn isn't able to direct due to his 'X-Men: First Class' sequel commitments, my interest level diminishes even more. So who do they get to replace him? The guy who directed the epitome of terrible PG-13 horror films. Sources close to the situation seem confident that a deal will be closed imminently, so there is the very real possibility Universal could springboard this into a franchise with further sequels to follow. What do you guys think?

Are you still interested in 'Kick-Ass 2?' Is Wadlow a fair trade for Vaughn? Could you see this becoming a franchise?

True. I don't see the need for further story. However, I said the same thing when I heard about Terminator II and Aliens. I saw no more story to be told for them and was sure a sequel would suck. However, I'm glad to say, I was unexpectedly and pleasantly surprised. I'm never much for the making of a sequel if there does not seem to be any holes in the original. I was kind of heartened when Ripley of the Alien franchise finally got back to Earth, even though it was something like 263 years later and everyone she knew was long dead - and she was no longer 100% human any more. I did not need a Terminator 3 or Salvation. I only saw the first Saw movie. I liked it. But never felt the need to see more.

I love the first Kick Ass movie and I love the Kick Ass 2 comic, so I'm all for a sequal. Just please..Please, work something out with Vaughn. IMOP he's the only director that can pull this off.

I don't think Chloe Moretz (i think thats her name) will be too old to play hit-girl

I was about say: Hey, don't awesome action movies usually get sequels?

Well, I guess I won't be looking forward to this movie......and, no, this isn't a fair trade but more like trading in a Cadillac for a Gremlin.

If Brian thinks that a horror movie was terrible then I can't hold much hope for this new director.

Didn't like Cry_Wolf and with Kick-Ass 2 probably being a challenging project in itself, I'm not very optimistic at the moment.
