If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Video game movies have never had the best track record, but one gaming company seems dedicated to bringing us a second wave of, if nothing else, valiant efforts toward legitimacy within this troubled subgenre. Ubisoft, or rather the two-year-old Ubisoft Motion Pictures, has already announced big screen versions of their games 'Assassin's Creed' and 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.' The former will star Michael Fassbender ('X-Men: First Class') while Tom Hardy ('The Dark Knight Rises') will be headlining the latter, so clearly these are not paltry, thrown-together adaptations we're talking about. Now they've added a third project to their slate. It appears Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, is putting together a pitch for a movie based on the 'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon' game franchise. 'Ghost Recon' is a tactical shooter that puts the player in charge of special ops teams. Though it bears Tom Clancy's name, 'Ghost Recon' is not based on any of his books.
I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed with Ubisoft Motion Pictures' ambition and business model. They partner with Hollywood studios in order that they need to put very little of their own money on the table, and yet they keep all the creative decisions in house to ensure their vision is not compromised. Of course none of this means anything until we actually see the end result of this model (i.e. until we see a single one of these movies). I've never played the 'Ghost Recon' games, or if I have I can't now distinguish them in my head from other tactical military games. That being said, the fact that its concept is so broadstroke means that there are several different ways to formulate a script and plenty of avenues to pursue that would please both gamers and non-gamers alike; something Baronnet has expressed is the goal for all the Ubisoft movies. Now, should the 'Ghost Recon' pitch get picked up, who should direct the flick and what actors should comprise the team(s)?
What do you guys think? Is this a worthy game series to adapt into a movie? Think it'll get picked up? Who would be your pick for director/cast?
