This post explains how we here @ Planet Tyro came up with rating system and how newcomers to the group should interpret them.

It’s fair to say I was somewot inspired by the fact that Spill.com has it's own rating system which makes sense, however I feel regarding the particular preferred medium of Anime / Manga, I thought I could come up with something a bit more uhh lets say descriptive or simply something more inspired by the people i conversate with

So after some time and consultation with my many tyro-minded friends we agreed to disagree and came up with the following Ratings: -

At Number One with the Highest Rating

HALL OF FAME

Everyone has one whether it’s in your mind or it’s a dedicated shrine somewhere in your house, there is a place where you would keep what YOU would call the absolute best of the best – the crem de la crem. Da Nutz, The alpha & Omega…yada yada

The thing with naming something the best of the best is that it really is subjective to the actual persons taste. Not to call Spill out but calling something better than sex may be a humorous way of declaring your love for something but I can tell you right now…personally there is NO movie/game or anime that is better than sex for me least of all The Dark Knight lmao sorry Spillios!

At Number two we have

FIRST CLASS

First class titles are just that, top notch. A great experience and something that is quite highly recommended for anyone. First Class titles have elements of greatness and originality but may not be able to quite reach that special shrine in your heart referred to as the HOF.

3rd Place goes to

SOLID B

Solid B titles are very good, enjoyable and entertaining. Something that is not outstanding but then again leaves you feeling like you did not waste your time and there were actually more good elements than bad. Some may call it a solid referral – a friend may say “hey check that one out its quite good”

Now we get to the middle tier

Watchable

If its watchable it’s a decent way to pass time…I mean think about it its Wednesday night your bored, you got nothing to do, you flick on the tv and guess what THAT show you probably would’nt pay to watch is on. It’s not necessarily bad it’s just getting you through the moment and keeps your attention somewot. Would you recommend these titles….possibly…would you buy these titles probably not but hey they do have their moments.

So next on the middle tier is

VANILLA

Vanilla uhmm sounds vague but in actual fact in today’s society it is the most necessary classification for almost every medium out there…why…let me explain. Vanilla titles are nothing new. In fact in most cases they are the product of carbon copying ideas and situations. They do not interest or thrill at all in fact they are just as plain and as dull as the previous title which had a different name. The obvious analogy is these titles are like those brandless tubs of cheap vanilla ice cream that you must consume with absolutely no toppings. After the sixth or seventh bite the so called ice cream becomes more of a chore to enjoy and you end up wishing you did not bother with it at all. At least the watchable titles had something there to keep your mind attracted to it! Vanilla is the same old shit with a different name. No Thanks.

Next Up

ACQUIRED TASTE

For this I will use a movie as an example: Mulholland Drive (2001)

Mulholland Drive is a movie many people hail as a movie classic with a thought provoking storyline, excellent characters and deep inner meaning.

Personally apart from arguably the greatest lesbian sex scene in history – I found the movie to be a combination of weird subplots that resulted in something I did not like very much but had enough unique elements there for me to at least appreciate it in some respect.

Typically it’s not for me but I can see why someone else might like it, in fact I know someone who probably would like it…why they would I can’t say for sure…that’s what I refer to as an acquired taste

Getting to the bottom

Not Feeling this

Personally I don’t like these titles for whatever reason. Not my cup of tea and I would not recommend these titles. Sadly one man's trash is sometimes another man's treasure

Clownshoes

First thoughts on these titles are: you got to be fucking kidding me….sadly it's not a joke! Bottom of the barrel, no-one in their right mind should like this…you may remember the term clownshoes from jay and silent bob strike back but its more commonly used online to reference complete and utter nonsense. Here’s the current online definition

If you want an example of what i would refer to as being a Clownshoes title..look no further than the anime referred to as The Master of Martial Hearts
