I wish it were April 1st, then at least what I am about to tell you could possibly be a very bad joke. Universal is looking to produce a sequel to the 1988 Ivan Reitman comedy 'Twins.' The original film, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, centered on a man of great size, but simple mind (guess who plays that part) on a mission to find his long lost brother, a small time (also small sized) crook. The two are the result of a genetic experiment designed to create the perfect human being. The sequel would apparently add Eddie Murphy into the mix as the further long lost triplet. At this point, the film has no script and no director, but all actors in question are attached with the studio eager to move forward. Reitman will serve as producer through his Montecito Picture Co.
Ivan Reitman gave us 'Metaballs,' 'Stripes,' and 'Ghostbusters,' and for that we should be grateful, but it was clear that when it came to finding a collaborative muse, that job should have forever remained with Bill Murray. Reitman tried three times to make a decent comedy with Schwarzenegger, a guy exceedingly unfit for the genre, and as result gave us three of the worst films of either of their careers: 'Twins,' 'Kindergarten Cop,' and 'Junior.' The thing is, I'm not the only person on the planet with access to this information. So why is it that Universal thinks we're all desperate for a sequel to freaking 'Twins?!' Have we hit the point that we've remade all the iconic movies from the 80s so now we're just tacking on unnecessary sequels to the awful and the obscure? And what is Universal's deal with 1988? This is the same studio bringing us a sequel to 'Midnight Run' for crying out loud, not that 'Midnight Run' is a movie that belongs in either the awful or obscure category. And really? Eddie Murphy? Aren't we over this guy yet? I know he's a legend and, at one time, was amazing. However, if it weren't for the first couple 'Shrek' movies and 'Dreamgirls,' his resume since late nineties would be the most depressing stream of unmitigated crap from 'Bowfinger' to 'Tower Heist.' I know it's not fair to judge a movie before it's made, but come on!
Are there any among you who feel that this could work? What other bad 80s comedy could you see Hollywood sequelizing?

Dear Korey:
Is this is what is going to take for you to lose all hope and faith in Eddie Murphy?

Comment by Jared King on April 1, 2012 at 10:14pm Hey...who ever wrote this, Twins and Kindergarten Cop are entertaining and you know it. Okay, Twins was goofy and corny and stupid, but it's likable. But yes, this is one of the worst ideas of all time.
Holy shit, this is all sorts of a bad idea gone horribly wrong
Comment by Andrew Dixey on April 1, 2012 at 7:09am "At this point, the film has no script and no director" Its in the can then! Shit like this wont have a script or any directions when its done anyway. The only way this could work is if its very wryly written and makes fun of its own ridiculousness, otherwise its going to fail. As for making assumptions before the movie comes out, if looks like shit and smells like shit...its probably shit!
Comment by Attila Kozmóczki on April 1, 2012 at 2:38am I don't care. You are not forced to watch this. You can skip it, I will skip this. Problem solved!
