Thanks to my good friend Jessica, she turned me onto a trailer for this movie. But I won't ramble on like most times I do these things.
So, in this film a Marine who has been on duty for four tours in Iraq/Afghanistan Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) goes missing, most people including his family back home assume that he is dead. Now, his high school sweetheart-turned wife-turned widow Grace (Natalie Portman) is left with two daughters and Sam's younger brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) is set free from prison and when he discovers this, he consoles the family as a surrogate family man. Tommy and Grace then quickly fall in love, only to their surprise that Sam comes back from Iraq/Afghanistan alive and well. He seems fine about coming home but then suspiscions arise that Tommy may have slept with Grace. Since, the brothers were always polar opposites, the heat rises and then this ultimate revelation will threaten the foundation of their family. But, will it end well or horribly?
I don't have much to say about this trailer other than it's pretty goddamned good and interesting. It definitely looks like an award film for sure. I mean it has both Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal who are both Oscar-nominated actors and it's directed by Jim Sheridan whose films like In the Name of the Father, My Left Foot, and In America have been Oscar-nominated material. Granted I've never seen a Jim Sheridan film but this looks like one. There's only two strikes about this film that could make it sink, 1. The script is written by David Benioff, who has written Troy and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But I've heard that Stay ad The Kite Runner were actually pretty good films. Still, it's more half of a concern. More because of Wolverine because I love Troy the movie. And 2. It's a remake of a foreign film. I say that only because most remakes of foreign films end up kind of mediocre/bad compared to the original, but supposedly Gore Verbinski's version of The Ring is brilliant and The Departed is one of my favourite films.
Nevertheless, this movie kind of looks amazing. Plus it'll be really interesting to see Tobey Maguire to pull off a scarred war veteran, who seems way more volatile, violent, and scary than he ever pulled with Spider-Man or Cats & Dogs. And I've been a huge fan of Jake Gyllenhaal since Brokeback Mountain, so that's another plus. But, still thank you so much to my friend Jessica for telling me about this movie. Still, to prove my point and matter of opinion, here's the trailer below:
