Trailerpocalypse! 'Promised Land', '42', and more!

I know it's been a while since we've had this many trailers all released back-to-back but the studios are busy stumping for their upcoming projects, so we have five new trailers for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

First up, it's 'Promised Land' - reuniting director Gus Van Sant with his 'Goodwill Hunting' star Matt Damon. Damon plays a salesman for a major natural gas company (so stow the "propane and propane accessories" quote) who descends upon a small town to tap into it's natural resources, only to experience a series of life-changing events. The film also features 'The Office' star John Krasinski (who also co-wrote the film with Damon) and Frances McDormand ('Fargo'). 'Promised Land' arrives in limited release on December 28th (in order to qualify for the Oscars) and then in theaters nationwide on January 11th, 2013.

Next, we have Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures' upcoming Jackie Robinson biopic '42'. Directed by Brian Helgeland ('Payback'), the film stars TV actor Chadwick Boseman as the famed second baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers who broke pro baseball’s color barrier. The film features an outstanding ensemble cast including Harrison Ford, Alan Tudyk, and Christopher Meloni and will be released April 12th, 2013.

In an extended promo for his upcoming adaptation of the musical 'Les Miserablés', director Tom Hooper ('The Kings Speech') and the main actors discuss the benefits of the unique way they're shooting the film (i.e. recording the musical numbers live as they film rather than dubbing in a previously recorded soundtrack). The adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic novel features Hugh Jackman in the leading role of paroled prisoner Jean Valjean as well as a star-studded cast of A-list actors like Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert and Anne Hathaway as Fantine. The film was originally slated to open up December 14th, but has since been shuffled to a Christmas release date in order to avoid going head-to-head with 'The Hobbit' (which also opens Dec. 14th).

The first trailer for the post-Twilight young-adult-demographic-bait film 'Beautiful Creatures' has arrived and it's... well, let's just say that yes - it is a trailer. As we first reported HERE, the basic story might sound awfully familiar - boy and girl fall in love, only one of them harbors a supernatural secret that might someday tear them apart. One thing that might set this film apart is that rather than filling it with random lip-chewing heavy-breathing nobodies, Alcon Entertainment and WB have filled the movie with notable actors like Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, and Viola Davis. Right now, I'm sure there's nothing that can prevent this possible franchise from being lumped in with the rest of the sparkly vampires, but I suppose only time will tell. 'Beautiful Creatures' is set for release on Feb 13th, 2013 (just in time for Valentines Day, you poor suckers with girlfriends...)

Finally, to wash off the residue of that last trailer we have the upcoming sequel to 2009's 'The Collector', named simply 'The Collection'. Once again helmed by creator Marcus Dunstan, the film picks up after the original and revolves around main character Arkin (Josh Stewart) being blackmailed into accompanying a team of mercenaries to track down The Collector's booby-trapped warehouse and save a wealthy businessman's daughter. Out November 30th, we can only hope that the franchises continues to take audiences by surprise instead of falling to tired horror sequel tropes.

The Collector is pretty overrated. A lot of people (and critics) reacted like it was a much smarter film, and it definitely wasn't. There's a lot of dull backtracking and useless characters that add nothing but nothing to the story. All-in-all, I was bored. If it wasn't so short, I would have turned it off right away. I would hope that this sequel would be better, but it doesn't look like anything new... and I'm kinda bored of the torture genre at this point.

1. Promise Land seems good...pretty much captured the political mood of America right now (prediction; Matinee)2. Jackie Robinson; thrilled they are doing a movie on a wonderful African American sports figure, on the other hand tired of them choosing mostly submissive Negros (I would prefer more Jack Johnson/ Ali type figures) (prediction; High matinee)

3. Les Miserables--Damn that was a long ass trailer...overselling the recording the music live thing...(prediction; low matinee)

4. Beautiful creatures--Seems like a solid story idea, but how will they keep themselves from being compared to practical magic & the craft???

5. I saw the original collector...gave it a high rental...this one will probably end up being the same...Pretty hard to bring something new to the serial killer genre when you're already ripping off several other movie villains including jigsaw

Les Miserables- looks very interesting

42- Not really feeling the music with this trailer, I would have gone a different direction to be taken more seriously. Jackie Robinson was a pioneer for blacks in Major League Sports and beyond. I understand the approach with using Jay-Z/ hip-hop, but it brings it down a bit. Should we expect a Fredrick Douglass biopic trailer featuring Kanye or Lil' Wayne?.....c'mon now.

But other than that, its only a trailer and I want this to be a great movie. Can't wait!

* i meant to say I have not seen the original collector

I have been waiting for a great version of Les Mis for decades now whether that is a straight up film version or a musical doesn't matter. Hopefully this will the version Les Miserable fan are waiting for. I am not getting my hopes uo to high

Promise Land- Sound like another oil company are evil movie with the same predictable story and predictable and cliche  characters. From what I see from the trailer I expect it to be a rental at best.

42- I dont know why studio feels like they have to have the latest music to help promote a movie. I wouldnt mind as much if the song was decent. Sorry but the song they used was bad. Saying all that this looks like a great movie. Looks like it will have great acting and a great story. Hopefully they will not go to far from the historical facts. I am looking forward to seeing this. Hopefully this will be great ( full price or even netter than sex ) and get a large audience.

Beautiful Creatures- what can I say. It looks like the typical teen supernatural film . It doesn't look like it will be bad , just predictable and a bit boring.

The Collector- okay i have seen the original but what i saw in the trailer reminds me a lot of the Saw franchise. This is not good. You usually dont want your audience to associate your movie with another franchise especially if it seems like you are ripping them off. Looks like it will be another blood and gut soaked movie with very little plot and very cliche characters. We will have to see.

Promised Land: Well, they saved me from paying to see the movie.

42: More anachronistic hip hop in trailers, but who cares? Fuck yeah, I'm seeing this movie.

Les Mis: Skipped. Like with Hobbit clips and trailers, I'd rather wait and see it on the big screen. Definitely excited for this one too.

Beautiful Creatures: Yup. That sure is a trailer.

The Collection: Never saw The Collector, so don't know what to think of this.
