2012 is almost among us, and it’s about time to be thinking about what’s about to come next year. For me one of these things just happens to be the movies of 2012. Sure, 2011 was a great year for movies, but next year has a ton of great films to look forward to. There so much to look forward to, chances are you’re probably not going to agree with everything on this list, but you know what, that’s why it’s a good list. Hopefully these films will be worth the wait for me and everyone else who happens to be excited for them. This is my top 13 most anticipated films of 2012, and if this is going to our last year (which it probably won’t due to some BS), these movies better be good.

13. The Expendables 2

Now to be fair, the first Expendables was not necessarily the best movie out there. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t horrible, it had some great moments, but it wasn’t the epic return of 80s action stars as some of us had hope. Expendables 2 on the other hand looks like it might improve the flaws of the first one. Plus, this movie seems to have some great new additions to the cast including the man himself Chuck Norris. And if that news doesn’t make you at least a tiny bit interested in this movie, then I don’t know what will. I also hope they’ll actually give certain characters more screen time especially Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Even though I’m slightly disappointed that Mickey Rourke won’t return, I’m hoping this will be a great sequel compared to the slightly above average first movie.

12. The Pirates Bands of Mischief/ParaNorman/Frankenweenie

 Alright, I know I’m cheating a bit here, but I’ve gotten quite a bit of interested in all three of these films. For one thing, I absolutely love Stop Motion animation and when you have not one, not two, but three Stop motion films coming out in the same year, then expect me to be very interested in them. Tim Burton’s stop motion remake of Frankenweenie sounds like a nice treat. ParaNorman, while looks like Coraline with reverse genders, still looks like something very dark and interesting. Plus, to be fair, being similar to Coraline isn’t necessarily a bad thing considering how good that movie is. As for The Pirates, it looks like another stop motion hit for Aardman Animation. I have a good feeling that all of these films will be good in some way, and with three Stop Motion films this year, let’s hope this will be a good year for animation.

11. The Hunger Games

 Before I start with anything else, I have to say this; this is not the new Twilight. I swear everyone who said that it is the new Twilight hasn’t even read any of the books. Not only is it a better written and much more exciting book than any of the Twilight novels, but it’s not really like Twilight either. It’s a futuristic story about survival, and that sounds much more exciting than any series about a bad written love story about a horrible teenage girl and a wimpy Vampire. Even though, I’ve only read the first book so far in this series, I hope they manage to make Hunger Games a really good movie, both a faithful adaptation and a good movie on its own.  The trailer makes me interested, and I even like the cast they have too. My only complaint so far is that Woody Harrelson looks a little silly in a white wig. Other than that, I hope The Hunger Games will be one of the few really good book adaptations out there.

10. World War Z

 Speaking of good book adaptations, World War Z is another one that I hope to be a really good movie. Not only is the book itself great, but the movie has a bit of potential to be a good one. While some may say it might be impossible to make this film really good, I have high hopes that World War Z will be a great adaptation with some minor changes. Plus, it comes out on December 21 2012, so it has to be a good film if it’s going to be our last.  Over-all, World War Z is going to be one other book to movie adaptation that I hope will be great.

9. The Hobbit

Well after nearly ten years in the making, we’re finally getting the long awaited prequel to Lord of the Rings. I’ve liked all of the films based on J.K.R Token’s beloved series, even with some of their flaws including being a bit too long at points, I still enjoy the Lord of the Rings quite a bit. After seeing the new trailer for The Hobbit, I hope and expect the same great fantasy story that I got out of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. What else can I say but I’m glad Peter Jackson is finally making this movie and I hope this will be just as good as the others.

8. Dark Shadows

Now, I have to say, I am a huge fan of Tim Burton, however I have to admit, in recent years some of his films have been either hit or miss. , I find them to be mediocre at best like the Planet of the Apes remake, I find them to be absolutely incredible like Sweeney Todd, or I just think they’re alright but could have been better like Alice in Wonderland. Dark Shadows sounds like it will hopefully be another hit for Tim Burton. Even though I haven’t watch any episodes of Dark Shadows, just hearing about the original source material makes me think that it’s absolutely perfect for Tim Burton to make a film about it. And not only that, I’m really enjoying the cast for this film too. Sure, we got the usual suspects like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, but we also get Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Mortez and even Jackie Earle Haley. Considering I’m a fan of all these actors, a fan of Johnny Depp and a fan of Tim Burton, I’m hoping Dark Shadows will be one of Tim Burton’s finest films yet.

7. John Carter

To be fair, I don’t know much about John Carter of Mars in general, however seeing the trailer for this movie makes me really interested actually. Though not only does the movie look cool, but I really hope this film is good because this is Andrew Stanton’s first live action debut in film. If you don’t know who Stanton is, he is an animated who worked a Pixar and directed both Finding Nemo and my personal favorite Pixar movie, Wall-e. Granted Brad Bird, who also worked at Pixar, made a great debut with bringing new life into the fourth Mission Impossible movie, so I hope the same will go for Andrew Stanton with John Carter.

6.Django Unchained

I’m a big fan of Quentin Tarantino and the fact this next film of his is going to be a western, makes me thinks that this will be a truly great Tarantino film. While not much is known about this film at the moment, knowing Tarantino I’m sure he’ll give us something quite great. Not to mention that the cast makes this film sound all the more interesting. We get great previous actors of Tarantino’s films returning such as Samuel L Jackson and Christoph Waltz, along with great actors in general being a part of Tarantino’s film such as Leonardo Dicaprio, Jamie Foxx, and Joseph Gordon Levitt, just to name a few. Not much else to say except, if there’s one western I’m looking forward to this year, it has to be one by Tarantino.

5. Wreck it Ralph

Again, not too much is known or seen about this film yet, but from what I’m hearing so far, I’m actually quite looking forward to it. Not only is this Disney’s next big animated film but the fact that it’s an animated film about video game just makes me very intrigued by it. It’s said to be Disney’s answer to a video game Toy Story, or Roger Rabbit with the video game character cameos. However, with the film having a villain be the main character, it sounds more like Disney’s answer to a mixture of Megamind and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. To me, this isn’t a bad thing either considering that I really enjoyed Megamind and absolutely loved Scott Pilgrim. Add in the fact that Disney’s last computer animated film was quite excellent and John C. Reilly, then you got a film that certainly makes me very much interested.

4. Prometheus

Also known as the long awaited Alien prequel, Prometheus will hopefully be a fantastic science fiction film. Not only is it a possible prequel to a great franchise, but it’s also a return to form for Ridley Scott. This is his first sci-fi film in ages and I hope it will indeed be a great return to the genre for him. As long as it’s not a dull bore fest and doesn’t have Russell Crowe, then I hope Scott can deliver on this sci-fi prequel.

3. Brave

Now we all know Pixar had their first real fail this year with Cars 2, however Brave looks and will hopefully make up for Cars 2. Even though I do have a strong How to Train Your Dragon vibe from seeing the trailers, I still have a strong feeling that this will hopefully be one of Pixar’s best. Even if it’s not one of their best movies, we can at least expect it to be better than Cars 2.

2. The Avengers

Now here’s the real deal in terms of most anticipated of 2011, because who isn’t excited for this movie? A movie that was about 4 years in the making is finally here. So far all the movies before The Avengers have all been pretty good to say the least. Even if not all of them were perfect and were not as good as Iron Man, they were still decent to good too, so there hasn’t been a bad movie in the Avengers franchise yet. An adaptation of the biggest comic book crossover in history with Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, and Thor; let’s face it, who wouldn’t be excited for that? What else can I say except, I hope this will be worth staying after the credits for all these Marvel movies.

1. The Dark Knight Rises

Do I even need to say more? This is the movie that I like call it as the end of all movies. The Dark Knight is easily one of the greatest comic book movies of all time and the sequel leading up to the one of the best movies ever, has to something incredible. Not to mention Chris Nolan can probably pull off an incredible third movie considering he is my pick for the best director out there.  Christopher Nolan can do no wrong and I’m sure by the time this film comes out, any previous bad thought of this movie will probably be unheard of.  The Dark Knight Rises, the true end to all movies.
