While some cartoon series have been revived time and time again, others are left behind to be remembered by those who grew up with them. Not saying that all older cartoons were great (many of these shows had poor animation, stories, or dialouge) but it is of my opinion that if updated, these cartoons could be good for the new generation.

For this list I constructed the criteria is quite simple, the cartoons must have had aged a bit and have not been revisited in a while. In this list I will go over a brief summary of the original, why it should be updated, and how I picture it being reimagined. (Note the time this blog was created because some of these shows listed may possibly be rebooted as time progresses.)

10. Jem and the Holograms

Jem was an 80's cartoon created by Hasbro ( creators of Transformers, G.I.Joe, etc.) in an attempt to create a girls  cartoon that could appeal to boys as well with it's so called "action and suspense". The show focused on Jerrica Benton, owner of Starlight Music, who uses hologram technology from her deceased father to become her alter ego Jem, a popstar. The series follows Jerrica/ Jem's adventures with her band mates as they face the evil Misfits ( no relation to the real life band). I never grew up watching this show and I'm glad I didn't, as this show is utter garbage with its bland characters, horrible stories, and bad songs. Now your probably wondering why a show so bad on a list for cartoons that should be rebooted? Well to answer that question is that I believe in the right hands someone can turn this turd into something that won't suck, kind of like how Lauren Faust was able to make My Little Pony into the internet sensation it is now. Maybe instead of a popstar alter ego Jem could use her holograms to become a hero of sorts and have songs that are not terrible. While MLP:FIM is good the likley hood for another good girls cartoon is a little unlikely. I still am curious and hopeful to see if they could make this "Truely Outrageous" cartoon into something actually watchable.

9. The Legend of Zelda

 If you've been living under a rock, Legend of Zelda is a videogame created by Nintendo that followed the adventures of Link as he tries to save Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule from the evil Ganon and his forces. Inorder to accomplish this Link must collect the three pieces of the Triforce. Now you're probably wondering wouldn't that make for a great cartoon for kids. Unfortunately what we got for a Legend of Zelda cartoon was the series in the late 80's that came out alongside the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Instead of the description I gave of an amazing adventure to collect magical items, what we got was a half assed cartoon that almost had nothing to do with the games it was based on. While I am not a huge fan of the games, I understand how offened many fans were when this show came out. Now for a new series, I would like to see it actually follow at least one of the story lines from the various games with better animation and characterization. However, one of the problems I can see from doing a new series is giving Link and the other characters voices, as in the games they only spoke through text or not at all. This would be difficult to please fans as everyone probably has their own vision of how the characters should sound like. Other than that I think that this Legend needs to be revisited in animated form once more.

8. The Real Ghostbusters

Following the 1984 live action movie, The Ghostbusters, this series followed the continuing adventures of a group of ghost hunters who capture a wide varitey of ghosts and ghouls and return them back to where they came from. While many series that spun off from a movie tended to be terrible, this series was exceptionally good. What made this show good and entertaining was the fact that it was creative with it's stories and it's ghosts. What also made this show entertaining was the main cast and the comedy, almost on par with the actual movie. The only downside was Slimer himself just being annoying, but it was typical to have a weird sidekick for a cartoon in the 80's. For a re-imagining I picture the show focusing more on the characters themselves and learing why they became ghostbusters. Also I picture the show creating a mythos for ghosts and how they were once human and then became monsterous ghost that haunt the world. For years there have been rumors for a third film in the series, so I think that would be the best time to bring a new cartoon to the tv screen if it does come out. The only reason I think this may not work is that it may have trouble living up to the original cartoon and the movies it based on. If they get people who were fans of the original to work on a new series than I can see it working. I think now is a good time to call our favorite ghost hunting team back into action.

7.Dungeons & Dragons

Loosely based on the famous table top RPG, Dungeons & Dragons the animated series focuses mainly on the adventures of 6 young kids as they are teleported to the realm of D&D. With the aid of the sorcerer known as the Dungeon Master and their sidekick Uni the unicorn (seriously, what was up with the 80's having wacky sidekicks?) as the group tries to find a way back home as well as battling the forces of evil. While I didn't really watch this show, I found it to be a very interesting fantasy-adventure series for kids (definitely better than the Legend of Zelda cartoon). I also liked the fact that the six kids each represented a unique class from the games, making the team unique. For a reboot I can see it going either one of two ways. The first idea I have is making it follow the original cartoon but change up the relationship each characters has with eachother aswell as changing how they get into the other world (instead of a ride maybe a magical book perhaps?). Also I could see this new series focusing more on the kids learning to grow up and mature and learn to work together inorder to survive. My second idea is having a completely different series with the Dungeons and Dragrons name. Maybe it could be about a small party that slowly gains members of various classes inorder to find a mystic item to save the world (basically the first live action movie... but better). Hopefully one day we can see this fantasy leap off the table top and back onto the tv screen.

6.Mighty Orbots

 Mighty Orbots was a short lived series that ran back in 1984 (only lasting 13 episodes). The cartoon takes place in the distant future, where humans, aliens, and robots live in peace with each other thanks to the United Planets and the Galactic Patrol (a form of law enforcement). However the evil organization SHADOW, lead by the cyber-computer Umbra, try to disrupt this peace. The only group that can combat this dark force are the Orbots, a group of 6 robots each with a speciffic power. Lead by Rob Simmons, their creator and secretly the Orbots Commander, 5 of the Orbots unite to become Mighty Orbots. While I only recently got into watching this show online, i really wished that I saw this as a kid. Being a joint collaberation with Japanese studio TMS Entertainment, the animation for this show was really good even for 80's standards, and still holds up today. What also makes me like this show are personalities of each of the Orbots, being very disticnt and human, even for robots. For a reboot of this series I think the team behind Transformers: Animated would be perfect as both series had robots were humanized in look and the idea that each robot had a speciffic ability. I could see a new Orbots series re-creating the origins of the characters, maybe going over the creation of Umbra and why the Orbots were made to begin with. This probably would be higher on the list if I grew up watching it. Other than thak I probably wouldn't say "Ohno" to a new Mighty Orbots series.

5.Street Sharks

Now were getting into something that I loved as a kid. During the early 90's, many companies tried to ride the TMNT fad by creating their own group of a animal themed crime fighters, and Street Sharks was one of them. The story is about 5 brothers who get transformed into half-human/ half-shark hybrids by Dr. Piranoid. After that the 5 boys and their allies try to stop Piranoid and his evil mutants from taking over the world. Now unlike other cartoons, our heroes were viewed as villians in the public eye, though this didn't stop them from trying to reveal the truth to the people about Piranoid. First let me say that tihis cartoon was pretty bad as it tired to be the extreme version of TMNT ( Thats the 90's for you), but I have some nostalgia for this show. For a new series I want to see it done like the 2003 TMNT series, being more serious than the original. I could see the team being more like a group of vigilantes who work in secret rather than being in the lime-lite like the original. I could also see these characters dealing with the fact that they aren't human anymore as well as trying to control their primal nature. The only reason I can see this not working is that the series was a little too 90's for it's good, so it may not translate well. Street Sharks was one of those cartoons I grew up with, and I would think that it would be "Jawsome" if it was brought back today.

4.Johnny Quest

Johnny Quest was an action-adventure cartoon series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions (producers of The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, etc.) in 1964. The show followed Johnny Quest, a young adventurous boy, and his many globe-trotting adventures. Along with him is his father Dr. Quest, his body guard Race Bannon, his adopted brother Hadji, and his pet dog Bandit. What made this show entertaining was the many adventures they had in each episode, ranging from fighting sea monsters to amazonian natives. The series has had two other sequels after its original run, one in the 80's and the other in the 90's. For a new series I would like to see it follow its original couterpart on being a fun adventure series for kids but also serious to. I would like to see Jay Stephens (creator of The Secret Saturdays) create a new Johnny Quest series as with his latest show had a very classic adventure feel to it, as well as capture the essence of classic Hannah-Barbera action shows. One thing that i think will prevent a new series from being created is that it will be mocked because of the Venture Brothers, which began as a spoof of JQ (Note: I am not dissing any fans of Venture Bros., for I am also a fan of that show and I mean no disrespect). I really hope someone will continue this Quest soon.  

3.Voltron

Adapted from the super robot anime known as GoLion, Voltron is a story that follows five young space cadets that must fight off the evil king Zarkon, his son Prince Lotor, the witch Haggar and the other forces from planet doom. Inorder to do this the five pilot five different colored robot lions, which form the mighty robot Voltron (known by fans as Lion Voltron). Watching this show on re-runs on Toonami (Rest In Peace) I loved this show, but it has alot of problems. For one thing the show heavily edited the original GoLion series, censoring all the violence and mature subject matter. Also the show had some really bad voice actiing that would get annoying fast. For a new show I would love to see Genndy Tartakovsky (Creator of Symbionic Titan, Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab) take a whak at it because after seeing Symbionic Titan, he can make a very mature super robot series that also has great humor. I would like the series to focus on the characters and a more in depth on the creation of Voltron, and maybe tie in Vehicle Voltron as being something the alliance created. Now some of you may be thinking "isn't there already a new Voltron series airing, so doesn't that go against the criteria you set?". Well yes I know, but I am not completely satisfied with this new show and technically it's a sequel so I am putting it here anyways. I really want to see this Super Robot series come back, and done right next time.

2.Swat Kats

In an alternate universe populated by humanoid cats, the city known as MegaKat city has become over run with criminals and super villians allike. The only ones who can stop them are a duo of ace pilots, T-bone and Razor, and their specially modified Jet the TurboKat as the vigilante heroes known as the Swat Kats. Former members of the local law enforcement, the Swat Kats pose as junkyard mechanics and fight a wide variety of villians. This was one of my favorite shows growing up, and its a shame that it hasn't gotten much attention during it's original run, only lasting two seasons. This show had really good animation, a really cool rogues gallery, cool gadgets, and a pretty badass opening tune. For a new show I would like it to go over the origins of the Swat Kats, like how they became the dynamic duo that works well together. I would also like to see some of the side characters and villians get more depth. Finally, I would like to see some really cool flight combat, since I fealt the original lacked in this area a little. Unfortunately the show didn't have that great of a following, so it's probably unlikely to get a reboot, but a guy can dream right? I really hope someone brings back these radical Kats.

1.Superman

For this one I'm not giving a description because it's a timeless story that many already know, withoout knowing everything. Supeman is that character that many people love, since he was the first super, yet in recent years I feel that Superman has dropped in popularity. This. Is a shame because Superman was my favorite superhero for the longest time. Now for a reboot, I would really like to see something dealing with Superman trying to fit into society, and dealing with a double life. Or instead of being an origin story, maybe it could be an episodic series following his many exploits, similar to Batman: the Brave and the Bold. I could really go either way, I just really want to see a new series now. Well with the new Superman movie on it's way, the possibility for a new cartoon series is much more likely inorder to cash in on the movie.

So that's my top 10 list of Cartoons I would like to see redone. Remember, these are the opinions of myself so if you disagree then that is just fine. Hopefully in the near future someone will redo one of these cartoons for todays younger audience who haven't experienced these cartoons.
