Title For New 'Star Trek' Film Uncovered?

We may be reaching the point in which we need no longer refer to J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek' sequel as 'Star Trek 2' or 'That Star Trek Sequel.' A rumor has surfaced that the new film will be tilted 'Star Trek Into Darkness.' Paramount has not confirmed this title, but apparently both www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie.com have been registered with MarkMonitor. This is the anonymous domain registration service that Paramount last used to set up the official site for 'G.I. Joe Retaliation.' 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' as it will purportedly be called, is currently in post production ahead of its May 17th, 2013 release. The new film will see the return of all principle actors/crew members with the notable additions of Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Weller to the cast.

The first aspect of this story that warrants discussion is whether or not we actually believe the source to be credible. While it is true that MarkMonitor has registered those domains, and that Paramount has used them in the past, it is an anonymous service that anyone can use. There are any number of reasons someone outside of Paramount could have registered these domains: fan films, shorts, or even just an entrepreneur who may have gotten wind that the studio might be interested in calling Abrams' film 'Star Trek Into Darkness' and wants to charge them a hefty premium for it. If the latter scenario is the case, it's possible the studio would change the title to avoid exorbitant payment. Ok, now let's assume this source is legit and the film will be so titled, I have to say I really like it. I think it's wise to avoid simply calling the sequel 'Star Trek 2.' For many people, myself included, those words will always be followed by 'The Wrath of Khan.' I also appreciate that they aren't falling back on the formula utilized by the 'Star Trek The Next Generation' era of films. 'Star Trek: Nemesis,' 'Star Trek: First Contact,' 'Star Trek: Insurrection,' etc. This proposed title is obviously darker, and I like the ominous implications.

What do you guys think? Do you believe this will be the title? If so, how do you feel about it?

Is it me or do a lot of movies have dumb titles? I mean I get something like Back to the Future Part III because it's the third part of a three part story, Superman Returns because the title character returned after a five year abscence and The Mummy Returns because the title character came back from the dead (again) but why was Burton's second film called Batman Returns, why not Batman 2, he didn't return from anywhere except the absence from movie theatres?

It seems these people desperately want to show how creative they can be by thinking up funky titles when they should be thinking up consistent plots. We'll just have to wait and see how dark the place the crew of the Enterprise is trekking to is!

Dudes, sign this petition if you don't want a 3D Star Trek film. It's not too late, they've shot it in 2D and used IMAX cameras for some scenes. The plan is to post convert it into IMAX 3D. Support the cause. Take back the cinematic experience we deserve and demand an IMAX 2D release

Don't really give a shit what they call it as long as it's good.  That being said, it's not great, but I don't think it's all that bad of a title.

I really Enjoyed the 2009 film so I bet this one will be cool too.
