For longer than we care to remember, there have been rumors of a sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 comedy 'Beetlejuice.' But, like many wild, geeky rumors, nothing ever really came of it. But in a recent interview with MTV, Burton spilled the beans that not only has he encouraged writer Seth Grahame-Smith ('Dark Shadows,' 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter') to pen a draft of the script, but that he himself would like to direct 'Beetlejuice 2.' He also seemed very confident that Michael Keaton would come back to reprise his role as the Ghost with the Most. Here's what he said...
I love that character, and Michael [Keaton] is so great in it. I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to Seth, 'If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I'll look at it freshly.' In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it. I told him to try some stuff, but he hasn't come back to me yet. Michael was so great in it. I'm sure he'd strangely tap right back into it.
So yeah, Burton said he'd be interested in directing it and that Grahame-Smith would be interested in writing it. What does this mean in the grand scheme of things? Not much. Burton is not making a commitment to the project by any stretch of the imagination and even if he were, it's not as if he hasn't quit actual green-lit projects in the past. The thing that really makes me skeptical about this tidbit is that it's clear no one has even broached the subject with Michael Keaton yet. Maybe I'm just too much a fan of the original, but for my money there is no reason to even write a script for a 'Beetlejuice' sequel if Keaton is not on board. I guess what I'm saying is that I would not hold my breath if I were you.

Comment by jason franklin on January 17, 2012 at 12:12am i'm telling you all that this is not going to good at all.it would be like doing a sequel to Casablanca. And i'm telling you too much time has went by.i mean look what happen to Superman Returns.the only reason that they would do a sequel is money dollar signs that it end of story.this would not be for the fans.if yall real cared about beetlejuice don't let them do it.i mean it would be like trying to reproduce the best summer you every had .it might come close and it might be fun but the spirit would not be there.somethings are a ones in a lifetime moment and should be left as such.
