Three More Familiar Faces Joining 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past'

Presently, 'Days of Future Past' is coming together nicely. Bryan Singer is back in the director's chair, Sirs Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are returning as Magneto and Professor X respectively, Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine, and January Jones may not be coming back as Emma Frost. So yeah, good news all around. Now we can add three more franchise veterans to the cast list. Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore are all set to make a series comeback in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' Paquin played Rogue in the first three films, with Ashmore taking on the role of Iceman for the initial trilogy. Page was actually the third actress to play Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat), but that character was not made prominent until her turn in 'X-Men III: The Last Stand.' Singer announced these pieces of casting directly through his Twitter account.

Not terribly surprising that once again Singer is hiring people he has worked with in the past to reclaim franchise roles. Well, at least that's the case with Paquin and Ashmore. He's yet to direct Page in an X-Men film, but again, Kitty wasn't made a central character until Brett Ratner's 'X-Men: The Last Stand.' The relationship between the past and the alternate future is a central component of this particular story arc, and it's nice to see that being reflected in the casting. It does however seem like more of the "future" is being nailed down than is the "past." That is, the news payload has been skewed toward returning cast members of the contemporary storylines and less in the direction of the roster of 'X-Men: First Class.' We don't know for certain how many graduates of the 'First Class' will be transitioning to 'Days of Future Past.' I suppose it makes sense that Singer's first priority would be securing the performers from his universe. I found Paquin to be a little flat as Rogue, but beyond that I have no complaints about this trio's return to the series.

What do you guys think? Happy Paquin, Page, and Ashmore are returning? If you had your druthers, would you have recast any of these parts?

Is anyone REALLY gonna shed a tear over the lack of January Jones? Like the Emma Frost character but January Jones couldn't act her way out of a poorly characterized paper bag. I like all the X-Men films except for the abortion that is was Last Stand. Glad Jackman will be back as Wolverine but i almost kinda hope it'll be for a small cameo where he says "fuck off" again. But seriously NO GOD DAMN MOTHA FUCKING CGI CLAWS!!!

Ellen Page is a good actor we'll be okay and First Class was an exceptional superhero and xmen movie i'm glad they're talking this left turn and do something crazy like this

I don't like where this whole 'franchise' is going.  First Class was a decent movie, and they should continue with that plot line.

Idk... Kitty is supposed to be an incredibly vital part of the Days of Future Past plot. I don't trust her to carry the story at all, based on X3.

As much as I liked "X-Men: First Class" and the two X-Men films directed by Singer (heck, I think I'm the only person I know who liked "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"), I am willing to accept disregard for any and all of them if necessary to finally establish a canon more closely resembling that of the comics (if possible) for any future projects. I see how this film could be used to correct chronology issues (like who were the actual FIRST Class members and during what era, though that seems unlikely and less important), and bad story choices (killing off Xavier, Cyclops, and Jean Grey among others, most found in "X-Men United") by way of time travel. I'd really like to see the use and return of characters like Taylor Kitsch's Gambit and other's that otherwise wouldn't jibe with chronology due to conflicting ages established by the existing films.

I know little about "Days of Future Past" never having read it or even having been too much of an X-Men fan, but I understand and it frustrates me that, unfortunately, film adaptions usually going the way they do, there are already great discrepancies in canon going in. I'm actually quite happy that most of the original cast from the films seems to be returning because I think they were all cast quite well (though their characters may not necessarily have been used well) and, though again, I don't know much about "Days of Future Past" I am anxious to see the two sets of actors/characters interact.

However (like the comic?), wouldn't a "Days of Future Past" film be about "future" versions of the Bryan Singer film's timeline of characters (and maybe as yet unborn mutants) traveling "back" in time to that "present" (again, Singer's films timeline) in older form looking to undo future events from occurring? If so, where do the "X-Men: First Class" 60's era of actors/characters fit into all this in a way that they would interacting with the cast of Singer's films timeline and not instead with newly cast actors playing adult or older versions of Singer's cast (unless of course they travel to that timeline and not Singer's or the "older" versions are the same actors in make-up)? Of course, again, having never read the comic, I don't know what amount of time-travel or direction(s) of which is involved or on who's behalf! What a mess just trying to explain!!!

If they are including X-men 3 into they're canon, then that means they're going with the wishy-washy, weak-sauce Rogue who chose to give up her powers, right?

Give me a f-ing break. That was NOT Rogue. And them trying so hard to include that abomination of a movie within they're canon really puts a bad taste in my mouth.
